  • Any other OPEs here?

For everybody else: An Operating Participant Employee is what DLR calls someone who works *at* the resort but not *for* the resort. At least, that's my understanding of the term. We get ID cards that look like the CM cards but they're green instead of the usual yellow or blue. A lot of the stores and restaurants in Downtown Disney are staffed by OPEs. We get some of the perks of CM's but not others.

For any fellow OPEs on here: Do you get as tired as I do of trying to explain that, yes, you work at Disneyland, well, sort of, but not really, and no, you don't actually work for Disney, and no, you can't get them in for free?

Try working for the Disney Store. Yes we are CM's. No we can't sign people in, unless you the manager. Yes we sell annual pass, but have a limited number, they are all gone and we cann't get any more.

Let's see, the OPE's I know of inside Disneyland:
Jewel of Orleans (Dianne's Estate Jewelry) AKA "The Sparkly Store"
Arribas Brothers - Glassblowers, Main Street and NOS
        Parasol Cart in NOS
Names Explained (Horoscopes - Castle Forecourt East)

Who else...? If you know, feel free to clarify the list.

Not sure about the portrait artists in NOS, or the silhouette cutters.

I don't think there are any OPE's left in DCA. Ariel's Grotto was Wolfgang Puck, and the Wine Country Tratoria was Mondavi, but they both bailed.

The silhouette cutters are CMs, they just get paid their standard rate and also by the amount of cuts they do in a shift.

              Bye.

Isn't the Heraldry Shoppe in Fantasyland also an OPE?
"Yesterday, a man walked up to me and said, 'Isn't it a shame that Walt Disney couldn't be here to see this?' and I said, "He did see this, that's why it's here."

I think the Heraldry Shoppe in the castle forecourt is the 'permanent' shop location, and the 'Names Explained" cart at Fantasia Gardens north of the Matterhorn queue is their additional summer location, like a mall cart...

I've seen the same merchandise at both, so I'm only making an educated guess - but I'm a darned good guesser on these things. )
