  • Bad Show At Dca.........

My wife and I went to the park yesterday and decided, before leaving for the evening, to go over to DCA. We entered the Hollyood area and I looked over to my left and saw this female ODV cast member standing at her cart picking her polish off of her finger nails, completely oblivious to everyone around her. We decided to sit across from where she was located and watch her to see how long she would do this for. Well, she eventually leaned onto her cart and really got to picking away and we were just dieing with laughter. She was only interrupted by a guest who had a question for her. She made no eye contact whatsoever and was looking in different directions while talking with this guest. Once they left, she went right back at what she was doing. We were hoping a supervisor was around, but unfortunately not. Well, we went to look at a couple of shops and decided to leave for the night. We walked past this cast member again and this time she had the door open to her ice cream storage area and she was talking on her cell phone, trying to hide the cell phone. Ok, is this bad show or not. It is so sad to see these types of cast members outweigh the great cast memebers of both parks. What a shame.

When we were in line for Mulholland, the CM surreptitiously took out his cell and checked the time. It annoyed me for a minute - then I realized he didn't have a watch on, and I understood where he was coming from. It was cool after that first jolt.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

When I was a CM, cell phones were totally forbidden on stage.

      Times have changed, evidently.

The current rules (at least as of last fall) is that they can't be visible on stage and can't be used except in case of emergency.

I only keep my cell phone with me onstage when I work rafts or parades. I do this for simple emergency purposes (there is no phone easily accessible on the island) or if a party gets separated I let them use my cell phone to call their party.

Understandable. But I would think they would supply some sort of two-way radios for that purpose.

On rafts, our radio is left with the CM at the dock (when staffed, which is most of the time during summer), so the rafts don't have radios. On parades, only leads are given radios. Good luck finding one of them during circular flow.

heh, whats wrong with looking at the time... :\ Some CMs are on a tight time schedule!

The first time on stage, i was asked if i had a cell phone they can borrow. of course, i told them i dont have one, but i always wonder what if i said okay, and let them use my cellphone and then get caught. I always wonder if thats right or not. :\

When I hired in I was told I was to leave my cell phone in my car, it was also when cell phones we're becoming a big thing and a possible security issue, but I would still bring mine with me all the time on stage, just not visible (in my coat or pocket)

As CMs, we aren't allowed to have our phones out, not even to chec the time. That's why we need wrist watches for!! There are no excuses for taking out cell phones, unless there is an emergency and there was no pay phones near by. I saw a CM once using a pay phone once onstage. I don;t think it was for an emergency.
