  • Count me in... finally!

Well, its finally happened: I now work for Mickey. And I'm pretty excited about it, too. Traditions is Saturday. And I'm in Attractions.

I'd secret high hopes of ending up anywhere on DL's Westside.... but alas, I ended up in the far southern end of the resort! Got my shoes and Dr. Scholl's today, so I'm all set to go.

... now about that 7:30 start!

The commute might be a bit brutal, since I live in the real-world version of Main Street U.S.A. - about 50 miles east of the one at DL.

I've done a little theme park design work in the past, so it's going to be fun working on the other side. And I used to work in sightseeing as a tour guide and ticket agent on Catalina Island ("what time is the 3:30 Glass Bottom Boat?") as well as for the large cattle boats that used to run over there so I'm versed in tourist-ese.

So fellow CMs, I'm looking forward to meeting you on your side of the fence. I'll see you on the Pier!

Hmm, considering my Catalina experience, maybe working on the Pier makes sense!

Yeah, they're history, I know. At least I got to enjoy the entire summer music festival in my hometown before I enlisted!

A 50 mile commute in LA traffic with petrol at $3/gallon and wages just above $8/hour. How is that going to work out financially for you?

Ah cool! We'll be able to see you more!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

                          Re: Count me in... finally!

I have no idea... but I'll find out tomorrow.

Traditions was interesting, though the business "standards" stuff was a bit dreary, (though I'm sure it is necessary to go over; I'm sure there are those who would respond to it with, "hones-ty? Integri-what?"). But I have to say that I was surprised at how thrilled and happy (and proud!) I felt when I was handed my badge and I.D. Big smile indeed!

The only part of this that really concerns me is when I have a late shift followed by an early one the next morning. Hoping to find a friend's couch in the area, or I'll only end up with about 3 hours of sleep between commutes when taking morning weekday traffic into account! Ouch!

If you're concerned about late/early transitions, you lucked out with DCA.

Just be proactive with stage scheduling. Same goes for things if you're getting stuck with tons of short parade shifts or whatnot, it'll probably be easier to cover one of those than your attraction if someone there called in so it's always worth a shot until you start annoying your scheduling.
