I was wondering which departments have the least and the most of hours?

    Re: Least / Most Hours

I don't know how to answer this question. For my department, it depends on the season. When we over-hire for the holidays, nobody gets any hours, but then they all go back to school and I'm left working 40+ as a CR. I'd assume it's similar everywhere.

I worked in FL and for the holiday season I averaged 60+ hours a week. Granted I was in entertainment so I worked regular shifts plus rehersals. We also didn't get days off. There were some weeks that I started on turnaround and stayed on double time for the entire week.

Myself included, but i learned that, while they wont schedule you any hours, call scheduling, they have a lot of shifts.

I guess it makes too much sense to actually schedule the shifts to people than call around asking people to take them, but, whatever.

Maybe not to you but I expect there is some logic to scheduling and management.

Seasonal changes tend to be a time of change with guest loads and CM availability (with people starting classes or other scheduling changes in their lives). I suspect that they have found it more effective to make the scheduling dynamic and get people as they need them rather than pre-schedule at that time when the number needed and actually available is unstable.

              Or not.

I have a feeling it also has a lot to do with "seniority". Since it doesn't take all that long to get seniority at the resort anymore, thanks to our wondrous unions those of us who actually WANT to work have to wait for those above us to turn down the shifts offered to them before we get them. So it would make sense to have flexible scheduling in order to accommodate this.

I wonder how much this does work into the equation.

well i know i have been there over a year now, and i am still getting four to five hours shifts. i dont get to many seven or eight plus hour days and i am kinda getting sick of it. but i am going to be applying for full time, those applications come out tomorrow. plus i plan on putting in for attraction trainer so that should help. i am trying to make my way up to lead.

I don't have any problems getting hours. I started as a Vacation Planner in Feb., and made full time in September--and I was the queen of "Can I ER?"

Now currently and regularly scheduled for 48 hours per week, and I know it's just going to get worse as we get closer to the holidays...

IT all depends on where you work LOB and land-wise

On a VIP tour you're there as long as they want you - that means you don't know coming into your shift whether you'll be there for 4 hours or 14.

                              Re: Least / Most Hours

MS stores seem to have many hours to fill. I'm only scheduled for shifts that range between four or five hours but its really easy just to extend them out or pick up another four or five hour shift.

And when it comes to FILLING shifts my scheduler told me seniority means absolutely nothing. you can pretty much pick up anything that is open.
