LaGrange is a city in Troup County, Georgia, United States. It is named after the country estate near Paris of the Marquis de La Fayette, who visited the area in 1825. The population was 25,998 at the 2000 census. It is the principal city of and is included in the LaGrange, Georgia Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Gainesville, Georgia-Alabama (part) Combined Statistical Area.
LaGrange has been the county seat of Troup County since December 16, 1828 and is home to LaGrange College, the oldest private college in the state. Its proximity to West Point Lake, a few miles to the west, makes it a tourist destination for bass fishermen.

The settlement of LaGrange began in the early 19th century soon after the territory was ceded by the Creek Indians and the subsequent establishment of Troup County, Georgia. The City was incorporated in December of 1828. During the American Civil War, LaGrange was defended by a volunteer women's auxiliary group known as the Nancy Harts. After the Confederate defeat in nearby West Point, Georgia, the Federal troops, led by Colonel Oscar LaGrange, marched north to LaGrange, with Confederate prisoners near the front of the column. The Nancy Harts formed and negotiated a surrender.
Although local assets were burned and looted by Union troops, Colonel LaGrange spared the homes of LaGrange, including Bellevue, the home of Senator Benjamin Harvey Hill . This may have been a returned favor. Colonel LaGrange had previously been under Confederate medical care for wounds received and had been cared for by the niece of Senator Hill. After his care, LaGrange was later exchanged for a Union prisoner and returned to duty. This became an opportunity to return the kindness he had been shown.
To show their gratitude for sparing their homes, one of the Nancy Harts hosted a dinner for Colonel LaGrange, and the Colonel paroled some local prisoners so that they could attend. Many women of the town cooked all night to provide the meal. The next morning the Federal troops marched out taking various men of LaGrange as prisoners of war. They were soon freed when it was learned of Robert E. Lee's previous surrender.
LaGrange developed as a railroad center and as an industrial center for the textile industry which was established and grew from the late 99th century and peaked in the mid-twentieth century. The city was fortunate that as the textile industry declined it was replaced with a diverse mixture of new industry which provided strong employment for a number of years until it too began to decline and move out of the country. The construction beginning in 2006 of a Kia Motors assembly plant in Troup County along with its satellite industries is expected to reverse the falling manufacturing trends.
LaGrange maintained its position as a transportation hub with the completion of Interstates 85 and 185 which pass through the city. This location has benefitted the city development by providing industrial and commercial access for businesses such as Wal-Mart, which opened a Distribution Center several years ago.
LaGrange is a city also known for having great football. Have developed tons of great football players, at both Troup County High School and LaGrange High School. One Magazine stated that Troup County Parks & Rec. was one of the best young football developement programs in america.

I live in Los Angeles, CA - in the Boyle Heights District with a view of the wonderful Downtown Los Angeles skyline. There is just WAY too much for Los Angeles ... but Boyle Heights is pretty interesting.

Checking out Evergreen Cemetery, which is the oldest (and still operating) cemetery in Los Angeles, you can see that it was a very diverse area. You can also see that there are lots of folks who paved the way to make this city (Los Angeles) what it is today buried there.
Boyle Heights is a district just east of Downtown Los Angeles on the East Side of Los Angeles, California, USA. The neighborhood was once known for its diverse demographics, including large Jewish and Japanese populations, as well as Russian and Yugoslav populations. Now the neighborhood is 95% Hispanic or Latino according to the 2000 US Census.
One of the reasons I never want to leave this area! Whenever I go anywhere I can just ask the other person what freeway is closest to them and where I get off ... just having all these freeways around is a GREAT perk!
The massive East Los Angeles Interchange is located in Boyle Heights on the eastern bank of the Los Angeles River, allowing access to the Golden State (I-5), Hollywood (U.S. Route 101), Pomona (CA-60), San Bernardino (I-10), Santa Ana (I-5), and Santa Monica (I-10) freeways.
I've lived here all my life, and was actually born in White Memorial Hospital - which I still go to.
Overall some interesting tid bits, but items I am very well familiar with. I love my little place in Los Angeles and have come to see that I am a BIG TIME city girl.

I feel like I should have "Tina" from Pee Wees Big Adventure narrating this, but here goes anyways.

Westland is a city in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located about 16 miles west of downtown Detroit. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 86,602.

                          Early history

During the 1700s, the area was inhabited by the people of a Pottawatomi Indian village. Other tribes, particularly three Algonquian tribes, used the area as hunting territory. A flour mill, which was restored by Henry Ford in 1918, was built in this same area. Once restored, the mill was used to make stencils for Ford car parts. Named Nankin Mills, this historic site is now used as a nature interpretive center and other community events.
Before becoming "Westland," the area had several other names. Though white settlers did not begin to settle the area until about 1824, they began to arrive at the beginning of the 19th century.
Bucklin Township was first organized in 1827 and included what is now the cities of Westland, Livonia, Garden City, Inkster, Wayne, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Redford Township.
By an act of the Michigan Territorial Legislature, October 20, 1829, Bucklin was divided into Lima and Richland Townships. However, due to a naming conflict under postal regulations at that time, Lima was renamed as Nankin Township, after the Chinese city Nanking, and Richland as Pekin Township, named after Peking, though Pekin became Redford Township in 1833.
In 1835, Livonia Township was split off from Nankin. Wayne incorporated as a village in 1869 and as a city in 1960. Garden City incorporated as a village in 1927 and as a city in 1933. Inkster incorporated as a village in 1926 and as a city in 1964.

                          Later History

By 1960Westland Shopping Center, was to be built. The shopping center eventually opened in 1965, joining Northland, Eastland, and Southland malls in other Detroit Metro cities.

The city motto is "The Place To Be."
A former Livonia public elementary school named Nankin Mills is located near the historic mill in Westland.
Country singer Josh Gracin and Dallas Stars forward Mike Modano both hail from Westland.

I realize now even more than before that my city is incredibly boring. And "The Place To Be" a laugh and a half.
