  • Road Trips---How do you keep yourself entertained?

I am going on a 14 hour road trip Friday for a family reunion. I will be driving and sleeping through some portion of it. But what stuff do you participate in to keep yourself entertained during road trips? Do you play any games? Write? Read? Draw? Listen to music?

If you play games, what are some of the games you like playing?

I enjoy finding license plates from all over the USA and Canada.

We usually write a list and then check it off when we see one... Some states have many different plates so we write down what ones we saw too.

Sometimes I think I enjoy doing this more than my kids

I also LOVE listening to good music on long road trips so if you don't have an ipod... make sure you bring lots of cd's.

We've driven a few times from NJ to FL and SC so we know about road trips

Satellite Radio - XM or Sirius
Can listen to same stations all across the country instead of trying to find a new one every 60 miles. XM has a great channel called Cinemagic where it is music from movies with audio clips of scenes between the music. It is like listening to a movie. I drove from L.A. to S.F. and they did the whole LOTR trilogy and all the Star Wars movies. It was great! Of course Sirius has Howard Stern.

        Books on tape/CD
You can rent these or even get them at the library. Also you can now download them to your iPod.

        Portable DVD Player + movies
If you don't own one you can pick one up for around $100 or you can rent one (plus movies) from this place http://www.inmotionpictures.com/ . Only this is not very entertaining for the person driving.

        Theme CDs/iPod playlists
Have each person create a Road Trip CD or an iPod playlist before the trip and then listen to them on the drive.

I would love to put Green Day in the cars CD player, but that CD has a few bad words so I think I will just stick to my other CD's that have todays chart toppers on them .

Yup we have Sirius too and it comes in handy when you can't get any real good stations!
