    Bedroom Decorating Ideas

You may have heard that my husband spontaneously decided to move my bedroom while I was gone 2 weeks ago. He decided to convert a sub-level basement family room into our bedroom. I'm now okay with it (we had discussed it, but he did it without my permission or even input).

Anyway, I get to do the decorating. I got a great bedroom set with random slate tiles in it, which we're going to match up on the fireplace hearth.

But, I need some great paint ideas and decorating. We have this horrible 60's dark wood paneling around the bottom of the room with a chair rail and the upper walls are white. I'd like to tear out the paneling, but I'm afraid it's going to be an ugly job. So, I'm going to paint over it or something.

Do you know of any websites that have sample rooms? Any thoughts on where to begin? My hubby thinks I should just find a comforter and curtains and go from there.

    HELP!!!

Jen, if you have the budget I would rip out the panelling and put up sheet rock. Or consider another wainscott level panel job --just updated w. updated panelling (I'm picturing you have the dark panelling of the 60's and 70;s) Painted panelling doesn't usually turn out the way you might hope. Can't wait to see the finished result tho' ! YAY for redecorating!

We may just put bead board up over the paneling. It would be really easy and look so much nicer - now, if I could just figure out some colors.

I'd definitely go with lighter colors. I'm thinking maybe beige/tan/off-white and a light green or light blue. Or... whatever colors you like best.

When I redid my bedroom earlier this year, I went from a big oak pier unit headboard to all espresso brown furniture.

          After:

I now have a big print over the bed that matches the 2 art pieces on the wall in the pic (they're all by the same artist). The brown/blue scheme ended up working so well in my bedroom. I love it.

            Can you re-finish the paneling?

I am a big fan of white bedding......
              Yes, it is fast....

              No, you can't drive IT.

              Drive it like it's stolen.

bead board is an excellent idea Jen! I'd paint the beadboard a white acrylic based paint and then put some color on the rest of the walls. What colors are in those tiles? Don't be afraid of the oranges or greens in the tiles if it's there. If you've a basement room, my guess is you'd want to brighten it up yet keep it cozy comfy feeling. Periwinkle blue is a great color -- I did our bedroom in our old house that color. I thought it gave the room a great vibe. Let me see if I can find an old pic to show you.

Benjamin Moore paints are great. You can get little samples -- to try out for $5/6.

Otherwise I'd just go w/ a good Behr paint from HomeDepot. Make sure your paint is FLAT. No semigloss, gloss anything...no gloss!
