  • Alright ladies grab your weapons....its almost thanksgiving...

...and by weapons I mean cooking untensils. lol

As we all know, thanksgiving is just around the corner and it got me thinking; what do you place on the table that is a must have?

For my family it is my grandmothers southern baked mac and cheese. It is my favorite dish ever and she only makes it on thanksgiving and christmas. there are never any left overs of it by the end of the day.

so what about you? anything speaical, must have or maybe a lil differnt than the norm?

Why is this directed at the ladies? I cook my family's thanksgiving dinner! My dad and brother help... this is the meal my mom takes a break!

anyway, I can't do without the turkey, my garlic cheese mashed potatoes, home made cranberry sauce, and gravy.

Never thought of mac and cheese on thanksgiving but wow, that sounds great!

you do have a point about directing this to ladies... i grew up where the women got to cook and then the cleaning and the gusy watched the football game...however, my dad does make an awesome turkey...(he was never really into football) tehe

I make the basics. turkey, stuffing, mashed potatos/gravy, homemade cranberry sauce and green beans. I make this dinner twice in one day. We always have olives out though.

I'm all about the stuffing and cranberry sauce (and canned. I get a weird thrill over a full can mold of cranberry sauce) oh and green bean casserole. I actually get mean if I don't have this.

Oh my famous stuffing is what everyone looks forward (I'm not bragging..everyone just likes the way I do the stuffing) and of course we have tamales, red, green, sweet..beef, pork, chicken..

Thanksgiving is with the in-laws now so I don't have my musts haves anymore
mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie, corn and green bean casserole...

I do still make the rolls though! Yummy.

And how I picked you up and everything changed
                It was pain

My uncle is in charge of all the turkeys, and then we all potluck the side dishes. My specialty dish is whipped sweet potatoes with a nut topping- kind of like a pie, but not a pie. And last year I made a BLT (bacon-leek-tomato) mac and cheese as a bonus.

Nope! I can't stand it either!

My dad is the best cook I have ever tasted and he makes the Thanksgiving dinner for my family, my brothers family and the in-laws (mine and my brothers). We usually have 20-25 people over the house. I make the pies, all from my moms recipes (usually two pumpkin pies, an apple pie and a pecan pie). We have the turkey and all the trimmings. Since my dad's italian we usually have anti-pasta (a couple of different cheeses, some deli meats, peppers, olives, eggplant and bread) about an hour or two before.

Thanksgiving is a big deal at our house.

I'm usually the cook for Thanksgiving. The must haves are: the turkey, the ham, gravy made from the turkey drippings, mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing, green bean casserole (ick! never liked that stuff) , corn, cranberry sauce, apple sauce, homemade rolls with butter, jello with cream cheese balls, yams with mini-marshmallows and whatever other goodies people bring by - it all depends on the year.

My family loves to tie one on, so it should go without saying that we have tons of beer (and Vodka for my Oma). We always, always have black olives. Of course there's the turkey, but I like to cook legs and breasts....(less time dealing with the oven!). I always make cranberry sauce from scratch as well as homemade sausage/celery stuffing.

We usually buy our pumpkin pies, but I make the apple ones.

I think that green bean casserol is okay, but it is a MUST HAVE for my fella.

Nobody likes/wants yams in this household.

nah, we already had one complete thanksgiving dinner last week. As soon as I saw the turkeys on the store I grabbed one.

I hate Thanksgiving food, yuck. I don't eat any different [being vegan I am very limited], though I hope this year my family decides to go out, something Italian, even though I eat it every day~ I loveeee it!

We... well we don't have a family dinner.. We are lucky if we get like a pizza or something.. So I am hoping I will be working this Thanksgiving.. and next year.. I will have my own place and cook for my husband, son, and friends.. So I am looking for suggestions on what to cook!.. Next year! And any recipes.. Because I am still learning how to cook.

I never cared to much for turkey in the past, but I thik it's because growing up my family just did not know how to cook it. It was always like chewing on a piece of jerky.

I learned how to cook it and i love it now. We will have about 3 to 4 turkeys between now and when it starts to get to hot to turn the oven on again....maybe may/june.
