Re: Horderves, please post your favorites!!!

One that my brother makes every Thanksgiving:

    We'll call it Heavenly Bites:

    Puff pastry cups
    Brie
Cranberries (he uses cranberries from my mom's homemade cranberry sauce)

Defrost puff pastry. Place a chunk of brie on puff pastry. Top with a few intact cranberries. Bake according to the directions on the Puff Pastry box.

The first year he made this hors d'ouevres he used the sheet puff pastry which he used the rim of a wine glass as a cutter. it was a little bit too time consuming for thatnksgiving, so last year, he went the easy route with the shells. These things are gone before they hit the table!

I thought of another one I haven't made in soooo long! It was a recipe I adapted from an appetizer on the menu at Carrabas Italian restaurant.

    Bruschetta

    Baguette of your liking, sliced
    Olive Oil
    Pesto
    Gruyere or Fontina Cheese
    Sauteed Mushrooms
    Sliced & Roasted roma tomoates
    Fresh Basil

Place sliced baguette pieces on baking sheets. Lightly brush with the olive oil. Put a small amount of pesto on top of each slice. Top pesto with a slice of cheese. Do half the batch with a leaf of basil & a slice of tomato. Top the other half with a table spoon (or so) of sauteed mushrooms. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes. If you want the cheese to be a little browner, you could always let it sit under the broiler for a moment.

Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

      Pinwheels
      Mix cream cheese
      Sharp cheddar
      green onions
      small can green chilis
spread on flour tortillas, roll up, refrig for 1 hour slice

Spinach Dip in a bread bowl(mmmmm)
Frozen chopped spinach, drained & defrosted
      Cup mayo
      container sour cream
small can of water chestnuts diced
1 pck Knorr Leek soup mix
      Combine, refridge 1 hour

      Chili Cheese Dip
      2 cans chili
      1 block cream cheese
Microwave until melted & serve hot with crackers

      Hot Brushetta
      Tomato
      White Onions
      fresh basil
      olive oil
      minced garlic
      oregano
      fresh parm.
      French bread
Mix the spices/veggies & a couple of splashed of olive oil, spoon on to slices of the french bread top with parm. cheese & bake at 400 for 8 minutes

There's always the old standby Taco Dip/7 Layer dip
Spread refry beans on a platter
Spread sour cream on the beans
      Top with grated sharp cheddar
Top with diced tomato, green onion, cilantro & olives

My friend Dave makes the BEST Jalepano/Artichoke dip that's baked it is soooo good. I'm sure I could pry the recipe out of him if anyone wanted it.
Oh and my mom makes a great Pizza Dip that's hot & served with breadsticks too!!

Just wanted to add, when I"m doing a huge meal like Tgiving I like to put out tons of little things in heavy traffic areas. Like bowls of olives, pretzels, mixed nuts, celere with cream cheese or pb(the kids love these)

I also love doing a giant antipasta platter
        slices of salami, pepperoni, prosciutto
        slices of provolone, mozzarella etc
different types of olives, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers.

I'd leave out the coconut too since NO one here will eat it. I do like it but then I'd have to eat them all...

Hey I forgot to post this .....
3 Pkgs. frozen cut spinach (do not get leaf spinach, make sure it is cut, thaw and squeeze out water)
1 pkg. Phyllo (thaw overnight in refrigerator)
1 Pkg. of chopped Feta Cheese (or whole and crumble it)
1 med.container of whipped cream cheese
1 med. container of ricotta cheese
                          2 eggs (beaten)
1 onion ( I like the dried onion flakes better, not as strong)
1 1/2 tbls spoon of cinnamon
3 tbls spoons of grated cheese
                          1/2 cup of oil
                          1/2 cup of milk
                          Salt & Pepper
                          1 1/2 stick of butter

preheat oven to 350 (if oven runs on the cool side make it 375)

Grease the pan really good, especially up the sides
                          melt butter
mix cheeses, eggs, spinach, half the cinnamon, oil, salt & pepper
place 3 sheets of phyllo on the bottom
dot corners and middle about 2 inches apart with the cheese/spinach mix
                          add 2 layers of phyllo,
dot again, feeling where the dots are underneath and place dots next to original dots LOL
                          more phyllo, more dots,
continue until cheese/spinach mix is used up
Pour the milk, butter and remaining cinnamon into the bowl that had the cheese mix
place 4 or more layers of phyllo on the top
make long slits with a sharp knife
pour some of the milk mix into the slits and spread the rest over the top.
bake for 45 min. to one hour until the house smells great and it starts to look brown

I just had the opportunity to read this thread...mmmm. I love appetizers! We should just have a meal of appetizers!

One easy one we do is

Jalepeno jelly over cream cheese, serve with wheat thins. Super easy and oh, so gooooood!

Hot broccoli dip is another good one, on the lines of artichoke dip but with broccoli.

                            MeiMei
                            Boo!

That phyllo dough recipe sounds divine.

I'm going to try that this holiday season. Thanks!

                                Cheesy Spinach Pinwheels

1 can refrigerated cresent dinner rolls
1/3 cup cream cheese (any flavor)
4 slices thinly sliced deli ham
                                1/2 cup packed spinach leaves

Preheat overn to 375, Seperate dough into 4 rectangles. Press seams to seal.

Spread each rectangle with about 1 and a 1/2 tablespoons cheese to within 1/4 inch of the edges. Top with 1 slice of ham and spinach leaves.

Starting at short side, roll up each rectangle; pinch edges to seal. Cut each roll crosswise into 6 slices for a total of 24 slices. Place slices, cut side down on non stick pan. Bake 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Place on cooling rack for a few minutes and serve warm.

                                These are really good anytime!

                                Happy Holidays!
