  • Questions for those who wanted to be a princess...

Did you want to be a princess when you were little? If so, did you eventually outgrow this, or is that something you still think about on occasion?

Reason I ask is it seems like every girl under the age of about 10 that I know (including my two daughters) wants to be a princess. They all have the dress up clothes, princess movies, role play being one etc. and I was curious if this was something that most girls outgrew or if it lasted into adulthood.

I lived in my fantasies (still do to a great degree). Princess was just one of many things I wanted to be. Considering I was such a tom boy, I also wanted to be Indiana Jones. <shrug>

I could argue the whole gender/sex/role in our society that has warped what children think. But, that's another discussion for another day. :cwink:
Marge: Barnacle Bill's Home Pregnancy Test? Homer, shouldn't we have gone with a better-known brand?
Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
      Marge: Pink.
      Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

are you trying to tell me I'm not a princess I thought I was...

I live in this big beautiful castle (but I have to clean and scrub all day, I must be Cinderella)

I love the princess fantasy, I am still waiting for my night in shining armor
to ride up on a white horse (but unfortunatly he is sitting in front of his computer with no horse in sight....)

alas, this princess has to get back to work soon...

but to answer your question, my 11 year old still thinks she's a princess too a glittery hippy princess (neat kid )

The fantasy of being a princess is ingrained on many children at a young age. Look at all the fairy tales. Its sort of a "what I want to be when I grow up" thing. It can change depending on mood but if she has people that treat her like a princess, then she will continue to be the princess. Now, the question is will she be always be the sweet and nice princess or grow up to be an evil queen!?

I AM a princess. A pretty pretty princess. I'll be queen when mother dies.

Thanks for the replies! I had a hunch what the answers would be and it looks like that hunch was right.

It does seem like the princess thing starts early with most girls. With my two kids, it started at age 2 or so! And it wasn't pushed on them either. They're always allowed to pick what games they want to play and what movies they want to watch. They definitely gravitate toward the princess stuff.

Ah heck, I don't mind it. Kind of fun playing Shan-Yu with a rolled up newspaper for a sword and a blanket for a cape chasing two little Mulan's all over the house. )

You know, come to think of it, I guess I still sometimes dream about doing things I played when I was a kid...like being a hero of some kind - Jedi Knight, captain of a sailing ship, race car driver etc.

I think we like to be "princess" because we are special.

Here are two of my favorite princess sayings:

"It's not easy being a princess," said while tossing my hair and flouncing off.

"I'm a princess because my Father is King of Kings." This makes us ALL princesses!

DMof2 - My prince charming cleans the toilets here also - figure they should clean what they dirty - works for us!

                    MeiMei
                    Boo!

It's that way around our house too! So, instead of a light saber, I get stuck with a toilet brush! :lmao:

Yep, I wore towels on my head and said some day I will be a singing nun like the one who sang . my asperations was to do God work, and to pray night and day, Now when I got older I am sure my mom wished I had done so LOL! But she ended up praying night and day I would stay alive long enough to have kids that put me thru as much hell as I did her!
