  • Dieting- Everyone's Favorite Topic...

So I am on a new diet. I am not one of those who tries diets often- so I really hope I can stick with this one. As someone who was pretty thin all my life until about 4 years ago- I really want to lose this weight. (it's a lot). This one I am on is a 3 day chemical breakdown diet.

Has anyone heard of it? I am on my second week. Dumb thing is- I don't even own a scale so I don't know if it's working :o . It says you can lose up to 10 pounds in the 3 days. I didn't believe that but there are some people on the internet who said they lost 10 or close to 10. Others lost like 2lbs. The thing I like about it is that the items are easy to find, to cook and not repulsive. And it is so laid out for you- I am one who needs explicit directions.

So, what are your favorite diets? Has anyone tried this one and if so- how did it go? I would be happy to post the diet if anyone is interested.

    And WISH ME LUCK!!

I don't really diet. I just don't eat much. I don't eat unless I'm hungry and even then I eat little. So I'll eat more meals, but smaller portions. Anyone ever act like that? I just think it's a college thing. Go figure?

Good luck Tink! I have never heard of that diet. Last year, my mom went on a diet and slimmed down a TON- I went to the same doctor to see what she had done and was prescribed 2 pills to take, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. They work to pretty much erase your appetite. I was also given a 1200 calorie a day diet to follow- a standard on with lots of veggies, proteins, and whole wheats. I stayed on the pills for 7 months and lost about 45 pounds. I also dropped about 5 dress sizes- so it really worked for me. It was doctor supervised and I lost about 10 pounds the first month. The pills are meant to help you learn to eat better and in smaller portions and then you wean off of them once you have hit your target weight. Not for everyone, to be sure, but it was the only thing that worked for me. I also joined a gym and went about three times a week. It has become harder to stick to since we moved, but the biggest hurdle for me was just buying better food and making better choices when we went out.

Eating fresher food will help out a lot! I also started doing yoga and pilates videos at home and you would be amazed how fast that can change the shape of your body! I hope it works, but it sounds like kind of a fad to me The most important thing I do is to not buy the stuff I know is bad for me! No cookies in the house very often, so no temptation! Maybe this could be our "dieters support group"

My new diet- lean cuisine dinners- we buy a ton of them- their skillet dinners are really yummy and it is easy to add more frozen veggies to them to make a more filling meal. The single frozen dinners are also good and easy for lunch or when we don't feel like cooking.

I heard that surgeons prescribe this diet to patients who need to lose a lot of weight before surgery and that the military recommends it to people who are joining up and need to lose weight quickly. So I don't really think it's a fad- but who knows.

What were the pills that you were perscribed? I need to make a doctor's appointment soon, so maybe I could ask my doctor about them.

This diet is pretty well rounded- lots of veggies, some fruit and protein in every meal. Only plain tea, black coffee and water to drink. I only drink water since I don't drink the other two. And NO snacking between meals. So far it hasn't been too hard to follow.

phentermine and phendimetrizine is what I was prescribed- the doctor I went to ran a program that charged 65 bucks a month for the pills and the doctors visit- so it was a pretty good deal. Your insurance wouldn't cover the pills probably, but maybe your doc would know of a similar program- I am sure the twin cities would have one somewhere!

I hope the diet works out- keep me posted I am trying to get back to doing the yoga, maybe I could lend you the beginner DVD if you are interested.

I actually have a pilates DVD set that I love. I was addicted to it for awhile about a year ago- I did it 5 days/week. But I got really sick and stayed sick for about 2 months and never got back into it. I tried it the other day and I could barely get through the first 15 minutes! I need to build back up again. I am relatively active- we go bike riding, hiking or on long walks through all the trails by my house at least a couple times a week. So I am not as out of shape as I look

We tried atkins for a little over 6 months and lost tons, close to 40lbs (e-ticket lost about 25lbs). I started going to curves fitness 3x a week. But, of course I started to cheat a little here and a little there and then soon enough off the diet we go. And that was the most stupid thing i did, because i think it screwed up my metabolism. I gained the weight back in a matter of a few months. I should have stuck with it. I tried recently to go back on, but just couldn't do it. It's one of those things that really is a life style.

I'm definately eating better now than before the diet (far less fast food), but it's still not coming off. A desk job certainly doesn't help. I started trying to walk/jog in the mornings, though less lately. I really just need to worry about portions. I'm a big eater (my whole family is), but i'll only eat a couple times a day. I should stick to BPF's way of eating smaller portions, more often. This is definately a sore subject for me. I end up comparing myself to every woman that walks past me. Fortunately, my bf doesn't care either way, but i still care. I just need to get up and do something about it...again. <sigh> now where's the cookies...

Homer: But Marge, this one came with a corn-cob pipe!
Marge: [reading from the test box] "Ahoy, Maties! If the water turns blue, a baby for you! If purple ye see, no baby thar be!"
Homer: So, which is it? Blue or purple?
                Marge: Pink.
                Homer: D'oh!
Marge: "If ye test should fail, to a doctor set sail!"

Are you my twin? Last year I did Atkins and lost 35 pounds... in 3 months. However, I didn't exercise (I know, a thousand wet lashes with a wet noodle) and I couldn't keep up with the way of eating. It was just too hard for me. So, it all came back... and I agree with you, I think it REALLY screwed up my metabolism.

Fast forward a year (which would be now) and I'm realizing that I have to at least exercise. So, I joined a gym (a bit more than I wanted to spend, but it includes EVERYTHING) and with the program I chose, I get a nutritionist who consults with me every six weeks (or I can schedule consultations earlier). After talking with me, the nutritionist set me up with the Zone. She feels it's the most balanced and fits the way I eat and live. So we'll see... I filled out a six page form of lifestyle questions and food likes and dislikes and will meet again with her in two weeks. Then I'll start getting a weekly food list and grocery list that corresponds, so I can start the diet. Until then, I'm reading the book so I at least go into our workshop meeting knowing a bit more about it...

An interesting fact my trainer told me yesterday (I also get a personal trainer when I want as part of the deal - the cool part is she's also a nutritionist as well) was that because I'm so short, I need to be drinking double the recommended daily amount. So instead of 8 glasses a day, I'm supposed to drink 16. How I'm going to do it, I'm not sure... we'll see

Just my 2cents. My mother and a good friend of mine have both used Weight Watchers and said what they liked about it is that you don't feel deprived. It's the points system. After *slacking off* as they say, they each have gained SOME back, but definitely not all. It's not a metabolism ruiner because it's not a 'only eat this kind of food" diet.

On another note, after a lifetime of dieting, my sister just had Gastric Bypass surgery 11 days ago. She's so freakin' happy and optimistic.
I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.
That explains the trouble that I'm always in...

Meg- remember that you are suppossed to get 64oz of water total every day. This is not on top of the food you eat. Lots of people, nutritionists included, get confused about this. Almost everything you eat has water in it, including bread. So you can meet your water needs with almost any beverage, all kinds of fruits, veggies, pretty much anything that is natural! That is interesting to know about short people needing to drink double- I wonder why that is?

That's true DQ, I had forgotten about that.

From what she told me, it has something to do with my specific body type. I'm short and I retain water very easily, so she told me because of this, I need to drink more water. Next time I talk to her, I'm going to have her clarify what she means...

Weight Watchers is a GREAT "diet" plan. I lost 70 pounds on it! but then I slacked off and gained 30 back. I'm now kinda OP again, but at least I'm working out this time (I lost all that without regular exercise!). But WW is a wonderful program and you don't feel deprived, mostly. It sure helped me change my eating habits, at least, and THAT is why I only regained a portion of the weight loss.

But I'm going to do the 50 for the 50th challenge and knock down the rest of the weight! Wooo, out of the ballpark
