  • argh!! my daughter teacher is so arogant!!!

She Stated she would like to begin doing fundraisers for this coming year so that the kids can go to disneyland. She wants to drive the kids down, and has stated that the best time is spring break. when my daughter informed her that that was the worst time to go the teacher got all arogant and states" look, I lived my whole like in florida, I am a seasoned WDW gal and I know that Montana had a different spring break then those in other states. My daughter tried to explain " my mom has done spring break there, its horrible, and there is cheerleading compititions, Easter, and several conventions around this time, nope the teacher tells her we are wrong, and that its the perfect time to go . She has never been to disneyland, and is completly ignorant about listening to the students and what they know. She says, it eather spring break or Summer time. YIKES whats up with this over bearing woman?
Rachal also told her, " my mom get plane tickets at a fairly good deal with notice, and it would be so much better then driving day and night to get there and then day and night to get back only to spend a few days there. ( flying is fast and easy and no wasted travel time. oh no, driving will be better ( what kid wants to travel in a van for 2 days coming and 2 days going? when they could be in disneyland in just under 7 hours????
I have a hard time with folks who think they know what they are talking about and do not even listen to other options!!!

Um....what's a dong fundraiser? Is that where they sell ho-hos or something?

        Just kidding Karla!

Personally, I think taking a bunch of kids from Montana to Disneyland is something pretty special (and expensive) that should be saved for their senior year of high school.

The teacher definitely needs to run this by all the parents and get their input before getting her students' hope up if it turns out she hasn't got any support.

Is it just me, or is this the only sentence you remember reading too?
As nice as the other parks are, we must always remember that it all began at Disneyland. Disneyland should be the crown jewel in the Disney crown.

How can this be a "school trip", though? What educational standards does a trip to Disneyland meet?

This doesn't sound like a good idea to me. What if you are the one kid that can't afford to go? It sounds kind of exclusionary, and unless it's a group function like band or drama, I wonder how she can justify it beyond wanting to take herself to Anaheim.

Let us know how this turns out. Very interesting...give that teacher a MiceChat business card and let us convince her that it is a terrible idea!

I hear ya. she is totally weird and tells the kids all kind of crap . oh and today. she made the rule that who ever talkes gets there class money they earned taken away, every time they talk they get 5 dollars taken away. well guess what. she did not say one word and at the end of the class day she informed the whole class that everyone owes 90 dollars. My kid says "what ??? " she says if one does not follow the rule you will all be punished.
Guess who is going back to the school tomorrow and speak to the principal ??

When is her Spring Break? Maybe it IS at a not-so-bad time.
If it's the week before Easter or the week of Easter, then it will be bad.

exactly!! and why get there hopes up only to be dashed when it does not pan out? this woman is a wack. I have had some problems with her, but some of the things Rachal is telling me is now on my worry list.

Re: argh!! my daughter teacher is so arogant!!!

Does she even begin to understand how many chaperones would be needed to make this trip a reality? And how many parents would be willing to leave their other kids at home chaperone anyway? Then suddenly the parents have to pay for their kid, but also themselves, and any other siblings, and if they are watching their own extra kids, that should preclude them from being a chaperone anyway! I'm guessing not many parents want to send their kids to Disneyland alone or with strangers.

                      Ack!

Karla, good luck. The woman sounds, uh, disturbed. This is not a well-thought out idea. You should start calling other parents and boycott this trip. If the teacher was serious and had her head on straight, she'd have started planning this last year.

Yeah, this sounds like a very strange field trip. Is this part of a club or is she taking the whole class? The only trip like this I've ever heard of is the Washington D.C. trips some schools do. A teacher deciding she's going to take her class out of state for a week doesn't sound right.

I guess if this is legit & has been OK'd by the district, I would send a note to her teacher with some friendly suggestions about a travel destination with which you are thoroughly experienced. Good luck Karla!

We can't even take the kids in our school into New York and we're only 8 miles away. Taking so many kids on a long trip like that would freak me out !

oh oh, I forgot to tell you, she has only 7 in her class. but still the teacher is wacky!!! She is in a small private school, and they hired this lady ( she is a new graduate) she was even telling the students about her beling molested when she was a child. what kind of teacher tells the students this??

Hmmm, I stand by my diagnosis of "disturbed" then!

Private school does give you more leeway as far as traveling though. But still, it makes no sense! No sense at all, I say! I certainly would never stand in the way of a trip to Disneyland, but this is not the right time/place, ESPECIALLY if this woman is potentially unstable. And she's new, so nobody really knows her yet. Sketchy.

yep! I did already have a talk with the principal, she had been real weird, I may just pop in this week again, and discuss some of the " weird things she is doing" like making the whole class pay for one kids talking, or last week someone stole 3 dollars from her, ( I think she dropped it out of the side pocket) but any ways she punished the whole class because the culprit did not come forward. there have been some weird problems, but I am thinking they are letting her hang her self. ( soon I hope she is replaced with a good seasoned teacher!!!

Re: argh!! my daughter teacher is so arogant!!!

That teacher obviously has problems. I would talk to the principle about it, something obviously needs to be done and things need to be changed.

Driving down to DL, taking 2 days and nights to get there in a van would be murder/suicide for any parent driving the van full of kids. I know that when my history class went to St. Louis and Cahokia Mounds, it was 8 of us college girls in a van with a male teacher driver, and I think he was going crazy by the end of the day, after an 8 hour drive (with stops for bathroom breaks and McDonalds) and listening to us chatting away about celeb gossip and other female stuff. I can't imagine how it would be with kids in the car!!!!!
I've been in a van for a long time, considering when we moved here, we drove, as far as we could every day, stopping every night at a hotel. It can get boring very fast.

There is also the expenses to consider, the hotels, the gas for the vans (or airfare, if she was sane enough to consider flying), park admission, food, do the chaperones pay their own way. What parent wants their kids out of state, being watched by a stranger, and being in a crowded theme park at the same time at their age?

I agree with what's been said before, i'd save a trip like that for Senior year or 8th grade class trip or something, so you have a reason to go down there, to celebrate something. I'd hate for the teacher to get the kids hopes up and not be able to deliver.
Press today is so concerned with cool vs. not cool that they're starting to forget good vs. bad. I'm not sure I'll ever be "cool", but I will always tirelessly strive to be "great". - Josh Groban

Now, now, there is nothing wrong with a newly credentialed teacher (ahem, ahem), but some people just can't do the job no matter how long they've been around. It's definitely not a job for everyone. It does amaze me how people like that get through their student teaching though. My sister had a woman student teaching in her class who was on her third attempt! And my sister still said "I can't reccommend you for credentialing". Yikes!

(I just finished my credential in December, but I'd been working in schools for 10 years, so I am pretty confident in my classroom abilities. )

Is she a credentialed teacher? Or just a new college grad? Not all private schools require credentials/student teaching etc.

Tell the principal you are concerned because the teacher is "not creating a classroom environment conducive to learning." That the classroom is so unstable, the kids can't concentrate on their material because they are always on pins and needles not knowing what is going to happen next. And that her classroom management style seems inconsistent.
