  • Losing Weight

Hello everyone.. my name is Mellymouse and I love food....

ok, here is my idea, 9 months ago, I started a thread about how to quite smoking. Everyone cheered me on and gave me great ideas. It worked, I will be smoke free for 9 months on March 16th. I thank you all for that.

Now, I need to lose 100 lbs. Wouldnt it be great if those of us, male and female, who needed to lose weight, joined together to help each other?
We could share tips, ideas, recipes, excersices... We could check in and let each other know if we've lost.. or gained. Did we eat good today or did we cheat, did we do our exercise routine or not.

We are not going to be monitoring each other, just offering support and understanding to someone else going through the same thing. What do you all say?

Ill start, today I pigged out, nothing healthy, but tomorrow I am going to start eating a salad before every dinner so I eat less at dinner and I will do my "Walk At Home with Leslie" dvd for the mile walk.

    Anyone else?
    Mellymouse

There is a new gold club for that purpose, FYI
It's called the Fitness and Nutrition Club
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

It is very hard to lose weight. Just know that others, like myself, struggle with it daily and are trying to change their ways. We are all here to encourage one another, so good luck and just know that there are others that are there with you!

And I probably could have actually REPLIED too
First, congrats on being smoke free! How awesome that MC was able to help you much with that goal!!

My recent changes are to eat more fruits and veggies and drink more water. This week I have been concentrating on water (at work at least!) and I have def. noticed a difference! That's easier than those pesky fruits and veggies

eat whole grains and brown rice...they are more filling than white breads and white rice.

I love fruits and veggies, but I also have a sweet tooth....thats my downfall. If I can keep the sweet tooth in check I usually do OK.

                    Yah I know Melly!!
Try to eat the high fiber veggies! I dunno what they are though! Beans, legumes, I think the darker lettuces... fiber fills ya up. And protein as well, keeps ya fuller longer, so they say.

                        Re: Losing Weight

                        This is my diet plan:

breakfast - raisin bran (or any high fiber, whole grain cereal)
snack (about 2 hours later) - apple, or any fruit
lunch - salad + green tea
snack (about 2 hours later) - banana, or any fruit
                        dinner - whatever's for dinner

Basically the key is to eat food more spaced out and in smaller portions. Also, replacing fatty, sugary snacks with fruits and vegetables or anything healthy is a great lifestyle change that will help in losing weight.

The key is lifestyle changes. My mom tried the south beach diet, and it worked, but she ended up putting the weight back on. this is why fad diets are usually not recommended.

Of course, exercise is great too! If you have an annual pass, a good stroll through the Disney Parks is also great exercise!

Good luck, and congratulations on quitting smoking!

I now this is not logical...someone else tell me this is nuts, but I haven't been sick in 2 years and the week I start eating less and really healthy things I get very sick. I'm still sick, but feeling better. It's probably just a coincidence...right?

I dont know... I for one was/am a the worse for your health the food is the better it tastes kinda person.

I was always getting sick, eating bad, I knew I was heavy but it wasnt until I was in the mall and caught sight of myself in a strange mirror that I thought, oh wow, I really need to do something. I have been taking vitamins, never did before, and slowly changing my eating habits. I have to say, I am starting to feel a difference in a good way.

I can make the switch to the healthy foods, my biggest problem is the amount. I am so use to eating 2 or 3 helpings at a meal that it hard to eat less. I am still hungry. That is why I am looking for suggestions on "make you feel full" kinds of foods...

                              make sense?
