That's one thing I've always been good at - and for that I credit a Dad that was super handy at everything, from woodworking to gardening to cars. The busier I get running my business, however, the less it makes sense to do time intensive projects instead of hiring someone else. There is something to be said for working with your hands, however - it's good for the psyche.
I like to think I am. Everyone else thinks I am. I do what I can but usually get my father-in-laws help because he has tools the equivalent to a Sears store. I wish I had a quarter of all the tools he has!
I do everything I can on my own though. Frog's right, it is good for the psyche.
However, I am handy when it comes to cars and stuff like that. THAT I'm willing to get my hands dirty with. But when you need shingles or painting? That's why I got a career.
Polar opposite to the partner--grew up in farm country and you did things yourself.
yes, actually me and hubby both are. I have sanded and refinished our dining room table and coffee and end tables. I also stained and painted a bookshelf. Hubby, handles all the mechanical and technology stuff. And all the car stuff too.
Some things yes, some things not so much. All things considered, I'd rather pay a professional.

I'm horrible at fixing things. My grandfather is good stuff and my dad can be handy, but it seems lower the generations go, the more inept my family gets with fixing stuff.
I'm pretty good at fixing computers, but that's pretty much it.
Well when my wife sees me with a power tool in my hand she will come over and take it away from me. She will then proceede to scold me like a child
"No sweetie, you are not supposed to play with that. That's dangerous"
So no, i am not handy around the house, but i can cook and repair our electronic equipment so it's a fair trade. My brother's a master carpenter, so he takes care of most things like that.

Maybe for once, someone will call me "Sir" without saying, "You're making a scene!"
The garage door has been making funny sounds. Today it decided to stop halfway, then open back up. It would only go part way, then catch and go the other direction. (I'm avoiding words like "go down" and "pop up" because I know how you silly MiceChatters think ) Anywho, I checked for obstructions- nothing. I observed it in action and saw where it was stopping. There were some loose nuts (aw dang it) so I tightened them, four total (this just isn't getting any better) but the major problem was that the track was bent near the bottom and a wheel was no longer on the track. I banged it back in place, bent the track back, and lubed it all up (oh holy crap, I give up) and now it works PERFECTLY! I'm quite proud of myself
I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.
