  • CC Sabathia going to the Yankees....

According to this Opt-out clause key to Sabathia going to Yankees - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
CC will be headed to New York. This makes it impossible for me to wish him well as I hate the Yankees, but I wouldn't pass up that kind of money either.

Not surprising. As an Angel fan I'm happy about this because, starting pitching was one of our lowest priorities and now the Yanks don't have 180 million to burn on Teixiera.

So it was about the $$ afterall.

The Yankees are stupid. Isn't he a combined 1-8 all time at Yankee Stadium???

Yep. That hopefully removes an option for the east coast-loving Texeira.

I agree the Yankees are indeed stupid. The 1-8 record is kind of irrelevant now though since the Yanks are opening that new bazillion dollar stadium next year.

One thing that is relevant is everytime he pitched in Yankee stadium he faced the Yankees. In addition, the Yankees for years have always cleaned up on the Indians. Yes the Yankees paid too much but I wouldn't use the fact that he's 1-8 in Yankee stadium as a knock against him.

But isn't he like 2 and 9 at Fenway??? Of course, he was with the indians. I guess the more relevant thing would be his ERA.

Is Sabathia really worth 161 million for seven years? No, Yankees need better pitchers to win playoffs games.

Nobody is worth that kind of money. However, as long as people keep going to the games and buying the sports apparel, they'll keep making the money to hand out to these overgrown kids.

$161 Million, 7 Years. That would be worth it if he won 40 games a year, and 8 playoff games a year including a guaranteed 4 wins in the World Series every year.

                    These salaries have gotten ridiculous.

Dodger fans might remember that nine years ago, they signed Kevin Brown to a seven-year deal, 105-million dollar deal.

Signing any pitcher to a seven-year contract is absolute folly in my opinion. Especially with a pitcher with a history of injury.

I thought Sabathia told Ned Colleti that he wanted to be a Dodger.

Somebody should tell him that the Dodgers left New York more than 50 years ago.

And when any athlete says it's not about the money, remember that it's always about the money.

                      -- Barry

Good call Barry, and your right. Maybe that was the sticking point with the Dodgers. I knew the Dodgers wouldn't sign him for 7 years after the whole Kevin Brown thing. I knew it was a bad deal way back then.

I didn't really care about having Sabathia one way or the other. He would have been a "nice to have" but would I have taken CC over Manny or the re-signing of Casey Blake or in excange for any of the young rising stars the Dodgers have right now??? Not for a second.

Apparently the Red Sox are now working on getting Teixiera.

I think Theo Epstein is working pretty hard at it, in fact.

However, what remains to be seen is where else the Yankees spend their ill-gotten means. Do they sign Burnett? Lowe? Texeira? What limits are there to the insanity in the Bronx?

I would have loved to see CC become a Giant, but it was destined not to be. At least the Giants are looking to start turning things around after the past couple of horrible seasons.

I wonder if/when the Yankees will ask for a bail-out with all this spending
Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."
