  • NHL Hockey - Support Your Favorite Team Here

I am watching the Chicago Blackhawks playing the Calgary Flames, and they are getting killed to tonite. The game is in the first period, and the Hawks are down 5 to 0.

I root for the Blackhawks since I reside in the great sports town of Chicago. Last year the Blackhawks did better than expected in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Expectations are high for this team again this year. The team is drawing really good, and new hockey fans are being made every game.

So who do you support in the sport of Hockey?

I don't really have any loyalty when it comes to Hockey, but I LOVE the game and will generally root for the Ducks and Kings.

The Blackhawks were down 5 to 0 in that game last night, and they kept battling back. This game went into overtime and the Blackhawks won 6 to 5. Exciting. The crowd went nuts.

        Same here.
Such a shame that it's not on ESPN twice a week.

Kings off to a fast start, providing the annual eventual letdown after a few long roadtrips suck the life out of them.

I finally watched my 30-for-30 episode about the Gretzky trade.
While the style was not to my taste, the amount of information that was provided was pretty revealing.
For example, I did not know that it was Pocklington talking too candidly to McNall over a speaker phone about Wayne, while unbeknownst to him Wayne was listening in McNall's office, that really turned Wayne to want the trade.
I wish they could have set out the financial amounts a little more clearly, as Wayne stood to make a lot of money at the end of his contract that Pocklington could not provide, but that McNall could. (And we know now how he did that!)
If Pockington had to pay whatever McNall was paying, how much higher would his ticket prices be, for example? How much higher for hot dogs, etc.?
Every million dollars per year is about $1.50 per seat more. Wayne made $3 million per season with the Kings Would Edmonton fans pay $4.50 more for seats? Maybe. But Pocklington had other financcial issues. He also had other players he'd probably have to pay more as well.

My son has been BEGGING to go to a game this year. I think we may have to honor that request.

My buddy has front row (but, um, top level) seats for the Kings. He called me about the home opener and I had to decline, going out of town for a wedding. Only game they've lost, I think. I don't know if I can pass up another chance this year, at this rate.

Growing up in Minnesota, I loved the North Stars, then once they left, I became a Devils fan, but then went back to my hometown team of the Wild once they were announced back in '97 and then when they actually started playing.

I have been a big Flyers fan since 1973, but since i moved to Orlando in 2005, I haven't had much chance to see them. that's what I miss most about home - my season tickets! (shh, don't tell my family, they think I miss them the most). This town doesn't even know wht hockey is....

NHL is the one sport I just got into a few years back and have become quite the fan of the Anaheim Ducks. The one team I will never find myself rooting for is the Kings, I respect them but I will never root for them. I'm a loyal Ducks fan, weather we are playing good or bad, and I think some Ducks fans can agree with me when I say that we started out slow, but hey it's only the beginning of the season.

IN a Loyal Calgary flames fan... Last year we dressed as Calgary flames players at Mickey's Halloween (7 players in total)... MANY people said it was the scariest thing they saw...

I don't ever see many L.A or Anaheim jersies in the parks!!!

No question. This is the worst-run major sports league of them all, yes even worse than baseball if that's possible.

For a few extra bucks, they give their national cable rights to "Versus".

Which means that I, as a DirecTV subscriber, am screwed.

Good thing we get the local Kings and Ducks telecasts. Bob Miller (of the Kings) has long been the most underrated sportscaster in Los Angeles.

Right now I'm watching the Penguins and Ducks. Pittsburgh had four power plays in the first period, yet the Ducks lead 1-0 at the intermission. Sidney Crosby and company have a day off in SoCal tomorrow and head up to Staples Center Thursday.

Totally agree, NHL is one of the worst run sports leagues, only because it's really big in Canada but is still prety new here in the states. NHL should really start to make it a big sport out here, I really believe if they tried they could actually be on the same level as the MLB.

And another thing, I think DirecTV should just pony up the money to ComCast to bring back Versus to DirecTV subscribers. I hate not being able to watch Ducks hocky when it's on Versus. But I do agree, good thing they show the local games out here

Alas, the defending Stanley Cup champions remained undefeated on the road for the season, coming back to beat Anaheim 4-3 at the Honda Center.

Not that they've ever really used this as an excuse, nor should they.

But the Kings (and Ducks and Sharks for that matter) have a major built-in disadvantage in that they have much more travel time than any other teams in the league.

Im betting that the Kings log at least twice as many flier miles during the season than some of the Eastern teams do.

Well, travel affects everyone, and more travel means worse results.
There are ways a team can counter this. McNall, before he ran out of money and had to steal from others, chartered a dedicated plane for the team to enhance stability and continuity on road trips. Games on successive nights are also big drainers of energy. Home teams generally don't schedule these (except home-and-home series against a common opponent), but away teams have them thrust on them all the time.

It was worse when Edmonton/Calgary/Vancouver were in their division. Those distances versus the distances of east coast division teams were quite disparate.

It has gotten a little better now that each team travels here for a game (I think that's the case now). Toronto and Montreal have had too much influence on the schedule these past ten years.

Oh, and I'll be there tomorrow night for Kings-Pens.
