  • NFL Stadium in Los Angeles championed by Schwarzenegger

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said he's going to sign an environmental exemption bill that will clear the way for construction of the LA Stadium.

State senators approved the bill, which would nullify a lawsuit over the project's environmental impact report by citizens in neighboring Walnut.

Schwarzenegger is expected to sign the bill in support of the stadium because its impact on the local economy and its ability to generate jobs.
There will be more than 6,700 new jobs created because of the stadium, causing an addition $21 million in new tax revenue and $762 million in new economic activity, said LA Stadium spokesperson.

Schwarzenegger hopes developer Majestic Realty Co., the driving company behind the project, doesn't poach any California teams to play in the proposed venue. They have indicated their plan to approach seven teams in hopes of luring one to LA. The list includes the three California teams: San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers.

The owners all love this, when LA does all the hard work (and all the spending of dollars) to lure teams, only for the owners to get a new stadium of their own in their own home town.

so, "6700" permanent jobs or just for construction? Certainly there will be a need for one-day-a-week parking directors and parking payment receivers. And peanut vendors.
But, really, some rich owner simply gets richer, all so us plebes can have the "privilege" of having a team to care about.
    We're doing fine without, thanks.

I see, based on the artist rendering of the stadium, that it never rains here. And, that the sunshine is cancer-ray-free.

Yeah, and the most ironic part is he'll probably poach a team from some other area of California and then the state will not benefit an iota from this.

EDIT: Next step - building a new NFL stadium for Oakland when the Raiders move back to Los Angeles?

No, it really just means we're getting another stadium. Although some team will want to move in and ditch their current digs, so theoretically........... maybe.

How many times have we heard this before? Irwindale. Carson. For the last several years, it was the Coliseum, Rose Bowl, or new stadium in Anaheim adjacent to Angel Stadium

There was also the new stadium to be built next to Dodger Stadium.

            Have I forgotten any?

Pardon me, but I've heard this song before.

I'm all for the NFL coming back to LA, but not without strict conditions. And not one dime of my tax dollars, to build a palace I'll likely not ever be able to pay my way into.

I once had a SoCal sports radio show, and threatened to throw myself in front of the moving vans if the Raiders tried to come back. The offer still stands.

Barry, the news here is that in the name of "economic recovery" the governator waived the environmental rules & regs and threw a pass to the developers of this proposal. Near Walnut. Which I think is near Disneyland.

I hope the people building the stadium will take IOUs like the tax payers are forced to endure on their state taxes.

This reminds me of when Tom Benson held the New Orleans Saints over Louisiana's head and demanded a total renovation on the Superdome. I'm so sick of that guy. So, I will be the big person here...and offer LA the Saints. PLEASE..take them. And Benson too.

I'd take the Saints right now!!!

Of course, most of the places they want to build a stadium are NO WHERE near LA ... but that's another story.

The Walnut site is near a Metrolink station. They could have special trains rolling on game day.
And, might be nice to have a light rail down the middle of The 57 connecting to ARTIC.
Might as well Blue-Sky the whole thing, since it likely won't happen.

It would have made more sense to build a football stadium between Honda Center and the Angels' stadium. Where ARTIC is going. Between three stadiums and two Disney parks next door, that's a lot of people that could move by train and save $14-$30 for parking.

The cynical side of me thinks they deliberately don't want you to be able to arrive by public transit, they want the parking fees.

Depends on how you define "near" Disneyland. Walnut's in Los Angeles County as is the city of Industry, where the proposed site is. . . It's certainly not as far as some of the other proposed sites, but not close either.

A new football stadium next to Angel Stadium and the existing Amtrak/new ARTIC station has long been in the hopes for the city's planners, hasn't it? I thought it was supposed to be part of "Sportstown" and the "Platinum Triangle" where they are also building those new luxury residences, etc. in the area of Katella and State College.

I'd love to see the NFL come back, but I'd rather have an expansion team, and that ship sailed when we lost out to Houston. Feeling the way I did and do about losing the Rams, how can I advocate ripping the heart out of some other lifelong diehard fan in another city?

, if a team from San Diego or SF Bay area moves to LA, the governor is going to make a lot of people mad. Because it's a net zero for the state if that happens.

I have a lot of empathy for those fans because the same happened with my Rams years ago. How that situation was handled is why I'm no longer a huge NFL fan today. Screwing cities of their teams every few years isn't helping the league, but I guess a quick payoff for the league and the owner is all that matters in this world of make a buck NOW.

Wouldn't mind having the Saints, but Benson or no Benson, I couldn't live with taking the one of the few good things residents in that area have had over the past four years or so.

I remember the gravel pit in Irwindale where the Raiders were going to move before they went back to Oakland. I remember that crook Al Davis pocketing 10-million bucks, and I remember Xavier Hermosillo getting more than 15 minutes of fame.

He even made it on to the Johnny Carson "Tonight" Show!

It looks like BofA threw up on it.

Was it done by Herb Ryman the night before developers pitched it to their bankers?
