  • NBA Contraction

So, if you've been following the latest news, NBA Commissioner David Stern (no relation to Isaac) is openly talking about cutting salaries 33% across the board, and also about contracture--cutting the number of teams.

Clearly, the Sacramento Kings would be the first to go--but if you were to take one team from the East (or get rid of four teams, two from the East and two from the West), who would you eliminate?

    From the west:

Golden State and The Clippers: California has 4 teams. They don't need 4 teams. Obviously you are not going to get rid of the Lakers and since Sacramento is the capital of California let them keep the Kings.

    In the East:

    Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards
Both teams, although popular locally, are not popular nationally. The wizards were popular for a minute when Michael Jordan was a part of them, but since then they have faded into obscurity. The true reason why Stern is contemplating cutting teams is because in two years he will add more teams in more media savy markets. Stern is more concerned with media rights and money making than protecting the NBA.

No, Sacramento is playing in an old, outdated arena, and attempts by Stern directly to strong-arm the city and county into building them a new play palace have utterly failed. If they take two teams from the west, I can see them combining Lakers and Clippers, and Kings-Warriors. The East, however, is harder to predict. Certainly Stern is going to do something to prop up the Knicks soon.

        West - Clippers and Kings
        East - Raptors and Bobcats

No way the Wizards are going.

I could even honestly see them getting rid of 3 in the east (Raptors/Bobcats/Bucks) and one in the west (Clippers) and moving the Grizzlies to the Eastern division.

They're not going to get rid of Toronto. Stern want's to expand outside of the US and having Toronto is a foothold into Canada especially since they moved the Grizzles.

I might have jumped the gun on the Wizards, but the Bobcats are the number 1 team on the east to be taking an extended vacation.

Contraction is a total misdirection. Stern is just conducting phyocological warefare.
