  • Open Soon: RB's Sports Grill and Hangout

Soon to open, with your help...RB's Sports Grill, located right next door to Barbaraann's "Stop By and Say Hi."

The plan calls for as many big screen TV's as we can fit in the place.

Stealing a page from the ESPN Zone, you'll even have TV's in the rest rooms so you won't miss a thing.

I need to know how many big screen TV's you like, and what you'd like to see on the menu.

I can tell you I want to have every game on a satellite dish available to our hungry MC fans. NFL, MLB playoffs, the NFL, NBA, yes maybe even soccer  if that's what our customers want to see.

Hot boneless chicken wings? You bet. Properly made nachos, and the best burgers ever? Sure.

Other things? Please help. This is your place.

Except for one thing...no alcohol of any kind, because I don't want this thread ("grill") to become like some othe groups or threads on this board, with all due respect to them. To each, their own.

But I plan to look around for some off the wall soft drinks.

Your thoiughts and ideas, please? About the menus, and what kind of TV's are best?

We open in time for next weekend!
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

I know. I'm trying to do something different here I guess.
Maybe I will have to bend on that. I don't want the bar (thread) to go into tangents about booze. There are other places here for that, Chad. That's all.

        Great idea, Barry!

As long as there is plenty of sweet tea flowing every day I'm in.

Oh, here's another idea. I visited my cousins when they lived in Jackson, MS last year and we went to a place called The Alumni House to see the Monday Night Football game and in the back room there were three levels of comfy recliners with drink holders and tray tables that the wait staff put you food on. Sports Fan Paradise right there!

          I'm with Chad.

Watching sports, especially in a "Sports BAR" with no alcohol is like a greek tragedy or something.

Okay gang, getting past the beverage issue, what would you like to see on the menu? Howe many TVs? What kind? I'm all for the recliners. We have an unlimited budget, you know.

Three, three TV's. How about dips, spinach with raw carrots, and vinegar/ olive oil with bread. Fancy chips (Currie?).

Yeah thats would make me happy.

Wow that was sort of veiled wasn't it. Not cool.

Why not also say no gays of any kind like some other groups or threads on this board?

Or how about no pagans of any kind like some other groups of threads on this board?

Nope, ya had to point fingers.

Well no thanks. You have fun in here. I'll stick with the people who know me and the people I associate with better.

With all due respect, O-Nut I think your are mis-interpreting Barry's intentions. I may have not met him in person yet but through my correspondence with Barry I know him to be one of the nicest and most decent persons I know. He would never, ever intentionally be hurtful or mean to anyone or any group of people. I can say with certainty that there was no malice meant in his statement. No fingers were pointed in hate or spite. Barry wanted his "creation" to have a separate identity and I am 100 percent positive that there was no discrimination meant, intended, or otherwise. I am very sorry that you took it differently.

Now to answer Barry's last question about the menu. I think the focus should be light fare. Instead of meals by themselves the food should be like finger foods, appetizers Chips and dips, baked potato skins, mozzarella sticks, chicken wings of all sorts of flavors, mini burgers, etc.

Decor: There should be sports memorabilia on the walls. Lots of framed autographs, pennants, etc. We need pool tables, darts, arcade games, and a jukebox for the rare time that there are no games of interest going. The focus should be on sports though. No live music, or karaoke. They can move down the street to other establishments. Texas Hold 'em is fine (in fact very fun). Not only should there be big screen plasmas but each table or chair should have a personal TV that the user can change channels as they wish and even have picture-in-picture if they want to watch more than one game at once.

I'd like to watch some great soccer from the EPL and Spanish League (BARCA!) LIVE....so you'd have to stay open 24/7 .... How about some souvlaki on the menu? A wide variety of sauces for the wings!

And please, no poker on the TV's. I still don't know how that is a 'sport' that's ending up on ESPN....
Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."

Oh yes there is nothing like playing a little poker while watching a foot ball game. I'm all for poker.

You know what else would be nice, is a little grassy area, outside. So we can go out and play some touch football during half time. Run off some of that energy.

O-Nut, I'm sorry you felt the need to react that way in what I intended to be a "fun" thread.

I never thought about and never would ever think about the other things you suggested.

I just wanted to make clear from the outset that I didn't what this thread (the grill) to become obsessed with booze and drinking. That makes me, and some our potential "customers" here uncomfortable. That's why I don't frequent the threads where people do that.

O-Nut, you and anyone else here are welcome to share ideas about the Grill, and come whenever you wish when it's open.

But make one thing clear...I did not appreciate some of the thoughts expressed, at least as I read them, in your post.

As a baseball fan to the core, 3 TVs is just fine.

But don't we need a lot more for, say, college football Saturdays, pro football Sundays (I plan to have Sunday Ticket) and hocxkey and basketball and curling and tricycle racing and even those ridiculous card playing shows they keep running on ESPN not-quite-Classic?

OK, I was being selfish. 3 big screens, 24 other TVs and one devoted to poker all the time! OK, I'm still being selfish.
