  • Talking Baseball: The Hot Stove League Thread

Okay baseball fans, The Old Town Team won their second World Championship in four years. Let's talk off-season hot-stove league baseball.

New Yankees manager (Joe Girardi?) and where will A-Rod land? Those will be among the big news stories as we count down to February and Spring Training in Florida and Arizona. Discuss everything off-season here.

      BREAKING NEWS!!!

According to ESPN, the Dodgers are to fire Grady Little and hire Joe Torre. Nothing offical yet.

Man, that will look weird seeing Torre in Dodger blue.

Here's a list Yahoo made for the top 10 A-Rod destinations:

            1. Angels
            2. Dodgers
            3. Giants
            4. Cubs
            5. Yankees
            6. Mets
            7. Tigers
            8. Red Sox
            9. Marlins
            10. Rangers

For the reasons why and why not, here's a link: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slu...yhoo&type=lgns

Aww...my Royals didn't make the list!

I found this one to be funny.

              Yahoo!

              10. Texas Rangers

              Why? They've done it before.

Why not? They've done it before.

Lots of options beings picked up and not. Dodgers thus far have not picked up Liberthal and Ramon Martinez. The only one left to decide on is Randy Wolf and the word is they will decline the option and try to negotiate his contract.

Earlier in October Olmedo Saenz and Roberto Hernandez filed for free agency. This week was Gonzo, Seanez, Sweeney, and Wells. Hillenbrand is the other one left now and I don't expect any of them back except maybe Seanez.

Oh yeah and that whole manager thing... Sigh. If we get Joe, the only thing I'm excited about is if Mattingly comes with him. I think the Dodgers coaches have been lacking for several years.

Everyones talking A-Rod but I'm curious where Curt Schilling will end up. His list of teams included my Dodgers so it would be interesting. Imagine a late season Schilling vs Maddux game?

Torre is official. I can think of some strange things in my twisted mind, but I never would have predicted this... Wow.

Very true. Would be a nice way for him to close things out.

It would also be a nice 1-2 punch in the Phils' rotation with Hamels.

The Red Sox and the veteran right-hander have agreed on a one-year, $8 million deal that could be worth as much as $14 million should he reach all the incentives in the package.

Those incentives include $3 mill based on innings pitched. $1 mill if he earns a Cy Young Award. And $2 million in weight incentives. Yes...weight incentives.

Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."

And how about the GM's okaying replay on home runs only, whether or not a ball bounced off the top of the wall after clearing a line, or whether a ball is fair or foul. Now it's up to the players and umpires' unions, the owners and Interim Commissioner for Life "The Bud's For You" Selig to okay this.

I guess replay in baseball is okay only for Home Runs. As long as it doesn't get rediculous.

There have been plenty of reports that the Yanks are interested in trading for Miguel Cabrera. They've also said that they are not willing to trade young pitching prospects to land Cabrera. Should be interesting how that turns out.
