Anyone used them? Know anyone that has? Have an opinion?
I need a new computer and would like a laptop (have a desktop now) but they seem pricey compared to a netbook.

    Re: Netbooks

I was thinking of getting one but asked my brother who is a tech and he didn't think it was for me since I wanted to check internet and watch movies and play light games on it.... since there is no cd/dvd drive.... and it only connects to wi-fi unless you get a wireless card.....so get one only if you have reliable wi-fi when you use it on the go or if you want to pay for monthly wireless card service --- and the graphic cards are not that good for games/movie

Well that doesn't sound like what I want. I use it for all those things too. Thanks for the info.

It's essentially a slightly bigger iPod Touch in my opinion, without the touch.

Netbooks are pretty much for email/internet only. If you want to watch videos, play games & whatnot... get a regular laptop.

              Re: Netbooks

If all you want to do is use email, watch videos (not in HD), use the internet, and other basic computer uses then I would say go for a netbook such as the EEE PC 900 or so, just remember your not going to get a DVD/CD drive with it, or much hard drive space to store things. If you need more power for more advanced programs and/or a DVD drive, then go for a laptop if you can afford it.

Or, you can wait until they release stronger netbooks, such as ones using Nvidia's "Ion" platform which will allow for gaming and better quality videos. Otherwise, most netbooks today are the same in terms of hardware and power.

I have an Acer Aspire One that I got a couple months ago. I mainly use it when I travel to check email and surf the net. While in Hawaii, I paid for a month of access to ShakaNet, which pretty much blankets all of Waikiki with wifi. I had a strong signal in my hotel room.

I have a netbook. In this picture is my laptop. I put my DS in there for size comparison:
