  • AIM virus

Just a warning-there's a virus going around and it gets to you via AIM. The way it works is someone one your buddy list IM's you with a link and a comment that goes something along the lines of "look at what I did, I'm cool." You click, and then all of a sudden that same message is getting sent to everyone on YOUR buddy list and there's nothing you can do! Now, I'm getting pop ups, I've got a toolbar I can't get rid of, and a naughy video even popped up and played while I was researching for my midterm (and no, it's not a sex-ed class!). I've run ad-aware about 4 times and each time there's about 30 files that need to be removed. So, just be careful!!

My husband's office was hit with it. One of their clients was hit so they were all sent the link.

http://www.aim.com/help_faq/security/trojan.adp might be of help. The instructions there are pretty long.

Also, you can run AdAware in Safe Mode to get rid of it better.

At Start-up, push F8 and select safe mode, run it then reboot. gone.

You might want to consider getting SPywareBlaster. It's a free little program that actively blocks tracking cookies and the like.
