  • My digital camera broke and need help deciding on a new one

My recent camera broke, it was a cheap one from my in laws for my birthday about 3 yrs ago.

Anyway, I want to invest in a new one, not sure what to get but this is what I want to use it for.

I have 5 kids and I would carry my camera everywhere. I want to be able to take pictures of when they are running or playing, or when we are at disney and taking pics of the parade or any kind of action shots when we are out. My last camera would just produce fuzzy pictures of action shots.

I have seen the Kodak cameras with the printer dock and not sure if the investment it worth it.

Im looking for a price range of about $150.00-$200.00

I also have a 256mb sd memory card that I had gotten to go with my other camera and will I be able to use this with any other camera that I buy?

hope someone can help me with this and have some suggestion

dont ask me about pixels and all that, cuz im not sure what it all means

    Thanks again

I have a Nikon Coolpix Camera, model # 4600. I purchased it at Target. It takes the memory card that you have. It is really easy to use, and it is within the price range that you mentioned.

I am new to digital photography, and I have had a lot of success with this camera.

The first digital camera I had was an HP 315, but we just upgraded to a Cannon EOS 20D. I know that it's not in the price range you mentioned, but it's a great camera that takes the best digital pictures I've seen.

It's an SLR, so you can go totally auto or fully manual depending on your mood

My first 2 digi cams were olympus and i LOVED them. They took excellent shots and the newer one made really nice 8x10's. Prior to the camera I have now I only bought Olympus, because I was so happy with them. , but for what i wanted I went with another brand I love for my newer camera. (canon digital rebel xt. It's more tham enough camera for my hobby photography.), but I did love the olympus ones. they were about $299.00, but they have probably gone down in price by now. I bought my last olympus a few years ago.

I have Nikon Coolpix Camera model # 7600.....

I got it last Christmas and it cost about 300 euro...

It has 7.1 mega pixels and 3x optical zoom...It also haas digital zoom..

Its a really good camera which also has video/sound record....

The only complaint I have is that it tooks about 8-10 seconds to save a pic after its taken...

It will take your SD card..And it comes in black or silver...

          It uses AA batteries

Another great camera is one my mother has...

          Its the Canon Powershot SD400

It has 5.0mega pixels, 3x optical zoom,

          and huge screen,

          it saves pictures quickly,

          and has video/sound capture...

          It comes with battery/battery charger

          It takes SD card's

          And I'd definately reccomend it!

Re: My digital camera broke and need help deciding on a new one

My first choice will always be a Canon...

            What to look for:

            CMOS
the greatest OPTICAL zoom possible (turn the digital zoom OFF)
6 + MP (so that you can get large prints if ever needed)

Kodak has a new dual lens technology that allows for 10x optical zoom in a very small and slim camera, if you're wanting small and slim.

(Personally, I can't see how good photos can possibly be taken when you're looking through the LCD to take every picture handheld... but that's just a preference. Find it a rather stupid advancement in technology since it only complicates matters in shooting... there's no way to steady the camera when you're holding it several feet from your head.)

I've always been a Nikon person myself and have a Coolpix 775 but I'm looking to upgrade to the 4800 maybe, because of the 8X Zoom.
I've heard that Cannon and Olympus are good bets on quality cameras also. One website I use to get info on various camera is Steve's Digicam, http://www.steves-digicams.com.

I'd go with as Canon or Olympus.

I have a Casio Exilim and I love it. The only thing I find aggravating is the small range of ISO; 50-400. I'd like something that goes higher. I don't get the sense from you that you'd be messing with that much though.

I have a docking cradle for it, which charges the camera; I push a button on it to automatically load the pics from the camera to the computer. The software puts the pictures into albums, depending on the day they were taken.

I think it takes SD memory. The box will tell you when you go to look. Most cameras now take a couple different kinds of memory; you can choose. I can take just over 200 pictures on one card, on highest quality picture.

as you can see you get alot of different opinions. I would research the cameras on your own and decide what one will be right for you. Maybe a question to ask is what brand would you never buy again? I've been happy with all my digi cams and they all still work perfectly....so I wouldn't be ab;e to answer it, but it may give you an idea that all the major brands are good and to just pick one you like..>

Re: My digital camera broke and need help deciding on a new one

I would definately say Cannon Powershot... I've had three Cannon Powershots, and the interface is the best of any I've used...

High megapixels and stuff like that are obviously good to have, but I usually look for a good optical zoom (make sure its optical, and not digital or a combination).

As for the memory card, it depends on the camera... You'd have to ask someone at Best Buy or wherever you're buying it, but it might limit your possibilities as far as camera models go. Memory is fairly expensive, so I'm sure you want to take it into consideration. I use a 2 gig memory card, and took about 1,500 pictures at best quality.. I dont know if you take a ton of pictures, but it might be worth it to invest in a bigger memory card...

I like small compact digi cams. so heres my take.

in my mind theres really only 2 choices.

I have a Sony CyberShot T7. Its cool. Real compact. I can keep it my pocket all day and barely even notice that its there. its start up time is ery minimal. like a second. that helps if you need to take a pic real quick and your camera is not on (like the steven tyler comercial). the battery life is so-so. It takes great pics during the day and in well lite areas. At night though forget about it. I mean it still puts out decent shots but nothing to write home about.

My friends on the other hand have a cannon powershot. they love and i have to admit im a little jealous of it myself. its a little bigger but its shooting ability at night far exceeds that of the sony. if i had to do it over again i might go with the powershot.

                              good luck.
