  • Geeky programming/scripting conversation...

I've been thinking it would be cool to automagically insert the current or last iTunes (or wmp) track name/artist playing on my mac/pc when I submit a post on a bbs like this one.

I suspect it's been done before, but I was wondering if it would be a good way to learn a new script language - AppleScript in my case.

I was thinking of something like a mashup of greasemonkey/firefox, my web server or a service like Last.FM, and local scripting like perl or AppleScript. I suspect I might need growl for my mac, etc.

Has anyone around here done anything that? This seems like a Monorail Man kind of question, but I wonder who else here might have some ideas?

This is not a PC vs Mac discussion. Since I use both, I'd like to try to make this work for both.

I've seen on some boards, in the sig, a "what I'm listening to now" kind of thing. Gimme a minute to see if I can track it down.

Sorry about that. The internets have been acting funny here at the office all day.
