  • I have offically switched to FireFox.

    That's right.

I was an IE guy, a hige Microsoft fan, but I decided to try out FireFox, and now I'm hoocked. I love tabbed browsing, and the boatload of features that come with Firefox.

Eh, IE only gave you spyware if you downloaded it. It actually WAS (I know most of you won't admit it) your fault for a lot of it.

I have actually had less problems with Avant Browser, basically a mod for IE, then I did with Firefox.

I really don't need all those plugins. And the Ad killer really works well!

This is true. If IE came with spyware than millions of other people would have the same problem. you get spyware from going to unmentionable webpages, kazaa, etc.

Can firefox be set to NOT use tabs? I've tried tab browsing several times, and it just doesn't click with me.

Ok, so I've played about with tabbed browsing and don't necessarily find it that usefull - what are all these wonderful plugins that make this the best browswer since sliced bread?

When I use Firefox I tend to have less break downs & less pop ups. However it can still be frustrating when a site is designed for IE and nothing else. So at times I have to switch back to IE. Otherwise, I do prefer it more. I too am not sure what every plugin is and what its use is for. Frankly, I don't care as long as the browser itself works

This plugin might help ease the pain of that a little.

FireFox is hype. Will die soon.

Or it'll become popular and geeks will start attacking it.

US department of homeland security recommended not using Internet explorer as it is a large security threat to your computer

the reasons why not to use IE?

Active X- Active X controls allow websites to drop settings into your browser at will, it's very easy to create active x scripts that can hijack your browser as well as install programs in your computer without your knowledge

It's connection to Windows is also a weakness, Microsoft has made Internet explorer so interconnected with windows that IE is an open door into every other part of your security system and any virus or even a bad script could find its way into your computers critical system files and basicaly make itself irremovable causing lots of problems for you

IE has also not been upgraded or really constantly restructured security and feature wise in a long time, Microsoft dominated the market an then left IE to stagnate for the most part

                                reasons for firefox

1 it's not too feature overloaded, Firefox was recoded from scratch and it's engine is free from all sorts of unneccesary code that plagues older browser types and it's features are only what is needed for your browser

2 yep more plugins then IE you can do tons of cool stuff with it

3 it's opensource, the opensource community has been finding holes and plugging them all the time making it's security much higher then what is found in microsofts IE

4 hackers arn't necessarily as interested in hacking Firefox or any other kind of browser because it's not as interconnected with your system (browser hijacking can still occure in any browser but any errors can ussualy be fixed by simply errasing the program and reinstalling, it's simply much tougher to get spyware through this program)

yeah, I'm taking Network Security right now and this was one of the things we talked about early on in the class

I too grew addicted to Firefox for the tabbed browsing but it offers a ton more then that

also the nice thing on MAC OSX it requires you to accept any program being copied onto your system... this along with the better browsers make it even more secure...

I Heard the FBI uses MAC for better security...
