  • Is either of these a good computer/deal?

I'm thinking of getting a new desktop PC (I have a MAC mini too), and I like the idea of the media center with TV recording capability. I would just like a Processor/RAM/Hard Drive upgrade from my several years old Dell PC desktop machine. Already have a new 22" widescreen monitor waiting for a new machine!

Techbargains says both of these are good deals:

So for all you techie know it all geeks out there...

    * Is Gateway a good brand?

    * Which of these two processors is better, the AMD or the Intel?

    * Which of these is a better deal, or is neither one a good deal?

    * Which of these is the better overall computer, regardless of price? From what I can see is there only a difference in the processor?

    Thanks for the advice!

Ugh. Gateways used to be decent, but I've heard nothing but complaints about them in recent years. But I think Acer is in the middle of buying Gateway, so hopefully we'll see some improvement. Acer used to suck but they've gotten loads better in the last 10 years. My laptop is an Acer and it works really well. I'm very happy with it so far. My desktop is an eMachine.

But in answer to one of your other questions....

Processor brand is personal preference. Some people are Intel purists. Both my current desktop and laptop have AMD processors that work just as well.

Gateway just got bought out by *gulp* ACER *gulp*
Three-time MVP Larry Bird, noting that Bryant has been the NBA's premier player for years, told Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick before this week's announcement, "When someone told me the other day that Kobe hadn't won an MVP trophy, it sort of made me feel like I wanted to throw mine away."

I mentioned that in my post. Acer has gotten a lot better in recent years. In the past I wouldn't have touched them with a 10 foot pole, but like I stated before, my laptop is an Acer (I didn't pick it out, it was a gift) and it's been working perfectly fine for me.
