  • [Chat] Why are there no Knott's commercials showing. . .

. . . train robbers, stagecoaches, the Mystery Lodge, a glassblower, seamstress, blacksmith, rock cutter, western stunt folks, then very quickly show all of the more standard rides with the climax of the ad being the price.

I was at a party yesterday and heard three parents going on and on at how expensive Disneyland has become. Knott's should exploit this opening more aggressively and play up the differences (the taller version of DCA's bad Maliboomer without spit guards, faster spinning bumper car & teacup type rides--I know they're not themed as well, but speed is good if you're over 6).
If Paul Pressler, Michael Eisner (and yes, even George K.) had ever ruled Knott's, almost the entire Ghost Town area might have become and remained be one giant T-shirt shop. Then Knott's would have closed due to "changing consumer recreational habits." End rant.

For what ever reason Knotts advertising is pretty much relegated to the print medium, whether it be magazines, newspapers or billboards. I can't remember the last time I saw a TV commercial or heard one on the radio. I know that the Cedar Fair seasonal parks back East rely upon broadcast advertising in season.

I just think that Cedar Fair has other priorities. They want to show the thrill rides, a couple dancing Peanuts characters because they are obligated, and then the price. As long as I have lived in Southern California I have never seen a commercial run that shows any of the cool little gems Knott's has. It's a shame. But it's sort of a reflection on what they are all about now..

I saw a Haunt TV commercial about a week ago, and a regular TV commercial a while before that. They aren't shown very often, though.

I like the park's latest commercial series. Gone are the sirens-and-bells-and-screaming-children-heads of the past few years and in their place is this down-home Knott's ad:

          And one for Haunt too:

Here's a commercial from the previous ad agency. And where's Ghost Town? Where's the Berry Farm? Nowhere.

            And another:
