  • News It's still a jam, but it's no longer called Knott's!

While not entirely "theme park" related, I came across this article about the famous Knott's jam we've all come to know and love. No longer will you see the Knott's name on it's containers of jam in restaurants around the country, although you'll be receiving the same product. However you'll be able to pick up the jam with the Knott's name at the theme park still.

Sort of a bummer, don't you think?

Noticed this the last couple of times that I've picked up chicken to go at Knotts on my way back from service calls in LA. I pretty much knew that it was inevitable, that the Knotts line of preserves would be pulled form mass distribution, as it tended to be the highest priced besides the organic stuff. I'm just glad that they are still packaging the gift packs for them.

Were they using a particular recipe developed by Knott? Or was this always just mass produced jam that had little to do with the history of Mr. Knott growing them in Buena Park and his wife preserving them in the kitchen?

Very unfortunate. More expensive or not, I typically buy Knott's preserves when out shopping. I guess this latest change is just the reason I needed to stop buying Smuckers products with the Knotts label on it.

I wonder if I the ones sold at the Emporium Market Place will be a more Knott's-guided recipe or if it will be the same formula they're using in Smuckers and just throwing a different label on it.

That's a good question. Maybe a side by side taste test is in order.

I doubt Mrs. Knott put high-fructose corn syrup in her original recipe like it has now.

The image that there's still some berry patches hidden somewhere backstage isn't killed by seeing these jars at Safeway, then.

Oh, there are some patches, in fact every time you ride the train you go by one, but you have to know where to look

Smucker's no longer makes gift packs for Knott's. Knott's had to make up their own this past Christmas.
I heard of one guest walking from CDR to the Berry Market next door and buying a jar of Knott's labled Boysenberry Jam to use with their chicken dinner.

You can still buy the jam with the Knott's label at the theme park, but in stores it will no longer have that label.

But seriously, that is too bad - seeing it at the supermarket with the Knott's logo always made me briefly happy.

It is a shame, but atleast if you buy it in the park, it will have the Knotts logo

Episode 9: Princes Leia is not Luke's sister, making him furious (we all know why...).
