  • Will Coronavirus disrupt the Boysenberry festival?

The boysenberry festival is supposed to start next week. What effect might the Coronavirus have on attendance? Could the park even be forced to close its doors at some point?

I look forward to this every year. This looked like the best year ever. I hope it still will be....

    Yes, it will.

A Message from Richard Zimmerman, Chief Executive Officer,
    Cedar Fair Entertainment Company

    Dear Valued Guest,

At Cedar Fair, there is nothing more important than the safety of our guests and associates. This is our highest priority now and always.

As we continue to monitor developments surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to provide you with another park update. We will be temporarily closing Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA effective Saturday, March 14. The park will remain closed until the end of this month. We believe this decision is in the best interest of our associates, our guests, and our community.

Knott's Berry Farm Hotel will remain open. We will work with guests who have prepaid tickets or booked rooms during the time period of our park closure. Refunds or re-bookings may be requested by contacting us at [email protected].

We continue to implement preventive measures as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as our own health and hygiene protocols. Additionally, we are maintaining close relationships with local, state, national and international public health authorities and are taking their guidance as additional preventive measures are deemed necessary.

Our guests and associates are considered family. We have your well-being at the forefront of our decision-making. We appreciate your continued loyalty and trust in Cedar Fair and our family of parks and resorts.

    Sincerely,

    Richard Zimmerman
    Chief Executive Officer

Even though the announced park closure is for approx. two weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if it lasts quite a bit longer than that. There are events in April in California that are being cancelled.

Even though I thought that the last few weeks of Boysenberry Festival might continue as planned, the current coronavirus is something that we have not seen since the 1918 worldwide flu pandemic. I suspect that missing the Boysenberry Festival for one year, given how much our local and national economy will be disrupted and how many people will likely be hospitalized and die, will seem a lot less important in a few months.

Perhaps, but we are likely moving to Florida this year, so this might have been our last Boysenberry Festival as a local. And perhaps our last one for quite a while.

Kind of depressing for me to think about that. Life will go on, of course. And I'm sure we will find other events to look forward to in the coming years.
