  • Scary Farm is wonderful, but outside the park. . .

After an excellent outing with Micechat at Scary Farm last Sat. night I returned with my daughter tonight (Sat. night--I'm writing this after midnight) and everything inside the parks was great! (Except that the crowds seemed much larger than last Saturday, and I saw some some teens {who loudly yelled the F word often and the N word a couple times--really repulsive kids} cut in line at a maze and get away with all this.)

But -- back to outside the park -- when we arrived, we got into the longest line I've ever been in --maybe in my life -- (topping the line for the fast-moving Texas Chainsaw maze at Universal) to get into Scary Farm.

It started from the entrance of Knotts, then went south to the hotel parking lot, then the entire length of the south side of the park to the street to the west of the park, up that a short distance, then back.

For 95% of this super-long line there were no Knott's employees in sight, and it seemed like hundreds of people were cutting into this line, angering (from what I heard) the far greater # of those waiting in line as we were apparently supposed to do.
When we finally got back in front of the stores in front of the park, the one employee stationed there outside was ignoring the many, many people cutting into this line. Really bad show Knott's. I hope you don't badly screw this up again in 2022!!!

Then when we left Scary Farm after a few hours, I saw garbage cans (like these two below) that I photographed in Knott's' parking lot. So bad show outside of the park on your property, Knott's.

Wow. Sorry to read about that. I avoided the weekend and have Scary Farm tickets for mid-week next month. I hope to avoid those kinds of shenanigans that way. Fingers crossed.

RANDOM THOUGHTS ON THE UPCOMING 2022 SCARY FARM:

I hope Puppet Up returns. The improv puppeteers are outstanding, but if the Henson producers phone it in & close with "WIndy" for the third year in a row, I will walk out during that song.

What I'd' really like in the main theater is the Ultimate Hanging show.

I've had great times going on about a dozen Micechat outings over the last two decades -- mostly to Knott's, but also to the Queen Mary's Dark Harbor (RIP) & at least twice to Universal Hollywood's Horror Nights. (Tip for Micechatters: I've never felt the slightest bit weird or lonely showing up for Micechat outings alone -- it's always a very welcoming & fun group.) Will there be any Micechat Halloween outings this year?

Knott's shows that the best mazes come from the imaginations of the haunt creators, and are not based on recent movies & shows that of course have MUCH bigger budgets than the temporary theme park houses. Knott's should avoid outer space & undersea themes that they can't afford to convincingly pull off. Wax museums, dark rides, & cornfields are better suited for more limited budgets.

Gang activity in the parks has reportedly gotten worse recently and Knott's has reportedly not been addressing this, though I heard this on a Youtube video, & hopefully it's not true. See (above) my first post in this thread and try not let deliberately in your face profanity & line cutting outside & inside the parks ruin your night. Maybe imagine you're in a Coney Island amusement park in the 1920s and are avoiding hoodlums. Extra scares!
This might be one of those times to be John Waters-like and just try to be amused by the bad behavior,
      but STAY SAFE.

Knott's is really stupid, we're talking Chapek short-term thinking stupid!, if they let misbehaving teen-age boys damage the reputation of their park as Magic Mountain did years ago. M. Mtn did eventually address their safety image with some costly & controversial reforms.

P.S. I wish the Queen Mary Dark Harbor would re-open, and Warner Bros. again had their Burbank studios event.

        HA!
        Is Knott's reading Micechat?
Fewer than three hours after I posted that above, I received and email from Knott's with this!

I'm surprised they took such drastic measures, but it's a good thing overall. I unknowingly went a few weeks ago on middle school day (when all the middle schools take kids on a field trip) and it was hell. So much line cutting, and lots of kids screaming and trying to be as obnoxious as possible. I'm a passholder, but it was so bad it made me not eager to go back anytime soon.

I do feel bad for the well behaved high-schoolers that just want to go on a date at Knotts and now will have to drag their parents along. But they can still go on Sundays without a chaperone. The rule says the chaperone must accompany them at all times, but I'm guessing there isn't really a way to enforce this. Parents can go in with their kids and then split up.

[I deleted part of this post because the chaperone policy will now extend to all nights of Scary Farm.]

. . . Knott's better have more and better security guards on every Scary Farm & non-Scary Farm night (Thursdays, Sundays, etc.)
or they'll receive more Six Flags Magic Mountain in the 1990s - like
press that will be VERY expensive to overcome.

Six Flags didn't have to react to Youtube videos like the ones just shot at Knott's.
(I won't link those. One was by an off-duty cop upset with the danger he faced with his kids.)

              Sorry you experienced this!

At Disneyland in the 1980s when I worked there it seemed like every attraction had a CM stationed where guests entered the lines. (I got stuck working in front of the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House for one day - though I was relieved that after about 5 minutes my brain blocked out that repetitive Swiss Family music.)

I don't think people are a lot worse today, and if teens in the 70s & 80s could've cut lines, some probably would have. Line cutting is so annoying. I STILL remember teens pushing their way to the front of Ghost Rider about 20 years ago. Knott's only cared about the short-term $ they saved by understaffing. (And/or badly staffing? Badly designing queues?)

I wonder & doubt if anyone ever cuts lines at Tokyo Disneyland. And there was an image of English looters neatly lining up to enter a store in London a while back!

Yeah I never really see line cutting at Disneyland, certainly not to the extent of Knotts where they actually have to address the issue in the videos that play in line! Maybe it's more because Knotts attracts a younger pre-teen/teen crowd, and maybe it's also because Disneyland staff are just better trained at dealing with it.

I love your cast member stories! I've never thought about the cast member that is stationed at the treehouse, but I guess someone has to supervise the guests. I imagine a lot of people try to sway the rope bridge that was added for Tarzan's Treehouse.

Maybe Knott's doesn't want to work with Micechat as they have in the past because they don't want Micechat's awesome outings competing with their new Beyond the Fog Scary Farm tours -- see 6:30 in this video:

I don't want to make Knott's safety another separate thread, but I hope Knott's isn't cheaping out and will go far beyond its chaperone policy to make guests be and (irony alert) feel safer at Scary Farm. I want this story to be alive for Knott's till at least through Scary Farm visit in 2022.

on the balance sheet of life...

Scary Farms is a liability and should be shut down, until
                      knotts can correct the problems.

Time for CP to rethink how to make KBF more family friendly and safe.

Knott's announced they won't allow unaccompanied teens into Scary Farm tis year. (2022.) ....

Least year I experienced some horrible behavior waiting in a maze/house line with teens cutting in line,
repeatedly & loudly yelling racist insults (the N word and no, the yellers weren't black),
and swearing loudly -- all while surrounded by strangers including families. I hope the behavior is better this year.
