  • Knott's is so much less crowded now than just a couple of weeks ago...

We went to Knotts yesterday my wife and I and our kids with 5 of their friends. The crowds were gone and almost everything was running. Even though it was a little hot it felt like they have put out a lot more placed to sit with umbrellas etc. so shade was easy to find.

Since the kids all took off my wife and I decided just to cruise around and look at all the shops and displays. We were at the park for 7 hours and the kids all rode about 11-13 rides in that time while also sitting down to a nice lunch. it reminded me of how it used to be when we were kids crowd wise.

We got on the Log Ride in 15 min. and most lines were about walk on to 20 min tops ( minus Ghost Rider which is arguably their most premium ride which always had a long line ) I think the previous months were a combo of FOMO, Scary Farm and pent up demand from Covid. Now the the staffing seems great and it never felt crowded until about 4pm when we left as more people were showing up at that time then at 9am when we arrived.

I am curious to see how much more crowded it gets when Merry Farm launches but if this is the new off season norm than I am very excited for the next 6 months of our passes.

Knotts in the off-season is really a more enjoyable experience than an "off-season" day at Disneyland.

I went there on a Tuesday last month and it was so empty that even Ghostrider was a walk on for me when I went on. Since a majority of visitors is local people, its easy to catch the park empty when its an off-season weekday due to many being at school or work and even then, they're more likely to head down to Disneyland than Knotts

We just went last Sunday and it was still very open and lines were mostly walk on and even the Log Ride was only like 15-20 minutes wait. We left in the early afternoon and we did see more crowds coning in likely to stay into the evening and see all the lights. We are going back next week specifically for this and will be going afternoon into evening so I am curious to see if the lines are still going to be so short and crowds so light.

Lines weren't that bad when I went yesterday. Ghostrider and Supreme Scream were the only rides I had to wait more than 15 minutes for. I'll see how well that holds up when I go again on Friday.

Advice: I rode HangTime multiple times last night and came home feeling dizzy the rest of the night. I think it rattled my brain a bit too much. I'm not riding that one multiple times anymore.

We were there today. Here are a few random notes -- I probably went on too long with #1:

                1. Always visit Sad Eye Joe in prison.
                Link:
                https://www.latimes.com/socal/daily-...r%2074%20years.
On the other side of the park, they should have a face character Lucy with her psychologist stand & she should answer questions -- one per person, and how about a "no stupid autographs or posed photos rule" with Lucy.
"May we please pose for a photo with you?"
Lucy: NO, ASK YOUR QUESTION OR GET OUT!" She could out-do Cruella. The no photos -- just live, spontaneous interactions would be a refreshing change for many of us. And spontaneous photos & videos would be more fun. The refusal (usually or always???) by the Las Lloronas in the scare zone after the maze at Universal's Hollywood Horror Nights made their scare zone creepier and more fun. Posing for photos would've meant dropping character. So boring to watch most characters post for photos. Exceptions: Cruella & Spongebob. Cruella is a fashion-obsessed narcissist to her posing fits her character.

                2. The Calico Carolers should not try to sing 80 feet away from where chainsaw sculptures are being created. Duh. If the chainsaw starts during a song, they should walk away after or during the song so people can hear them. When I saw them today they sang about 4 songs very near the louder chainsaw before I left in frustration. They do have a few options for locations in the Ghost Town where they sing & they do sing at different spots in different times. Knott's, maybe find out who the idiot (s?) responsible is --no, don't blame the chainsaw artists! -- and replace them with smarter people..

                3. Knott's Sky Cabin is pleasant and had a very short wait before I went up. The narration should not just focus on the park far below. It should also mention downtown L.A., Catalina, Disneyland and Mt. Baldy. I couldn't easily make out the Disneyland Resort today, BTW. It could use a Spaceship Earth-level landmark. The Tower of Guardians Terror isn't that distinct from 5 miles away.

                4. The production of A Christmas Carol in the Birdcage theater was the highlight of our day. Six excellent actors, an energetic piano player, and Dickens made for an wonderful short show!

                5. We were the only guests in Knott's Independence Hall. There were some interesting resident birds near it outside -- I wish there a western branch of Philly's City Tavern nearby.

And while I'm at it, I wish this were a new Berry Farm land with transportation systems linking it to the rest of the park, and I wish the land were similar to but surpassed & Disney World's Liberty Square.

Update: We went last night even though it was the first night of Merry Farm crowds were none existent. I guess a combination of holiday decorations and the new chaperone rules have curbed the teen take over of the park and it's now back to families and folks of all ages. Knott's always does a great job of making the holidays special and we just went for the evening but with low crowds my kids were able to go on 9 rides all rollercoaster type attractions. Minus Ghost Rider which was only 20 minutes all other rides were virtually walk on. The entertainment was excellent and the parks were clean and well maintain as usual these days and they have added a lot of actual seating with more benches and they have replaced many of the picnic tables with actual chairs and tables providing plenty of places to sit and rest for those that needed it. We are excited to go back again in the coming weeks and I highly recommend it for those that haven't gone in a while to check it out again as this is not the same Knott's from the 80's and 90's that many of us remember.

My wife and I feel it's as if Knott's is hearing all the complaints about Disneyland and doing the opposite of Disney and instead making decisions based on guest desires rather than greed. Each time I go I feel I am getting such great value for my money and even the merchandise and food isn't artificially inflated. We often will eat dinner at one of the nicer sit down restaurants and the price isn't any more then going to say Cheesecake Factory or any other mid range family restaurant. Even the merchandise we noticed was not falsely inflated which was almost shocking in todays gouge gouge gouge retail pricing. I applaud what they are doing and will continue to support their park and recommend it to anyone that is looking for a nice Holiday experience.
