  • [Pictures] Deanna Rose Farmstead - Overland Park, Kansas

Well today I decided to have some fun and went to a local favorite of mine, the Deanna Rose Farmstead. While it's name would imply that it is strictly about a single farm it is more of a combination of the following: botanical gardens, zoo, farmstock, and turn-of-the-century Kansas life. This year, the farmstead is celebrating 30 years of operation. It's run by the city of Overland Park (the second biggest city in Kansas) and is completely free of charge. A few years ago, the farmstead doubled it's size and added an area that replicates old-time Kansas life (as stated above), over the years they continually add more to this area with the plan for it to be complete within the next 5-10 years. To learn more about the farmstead and why it's name Deanna Rose click here.

I'll let the pictures do the talking. If you want to know more about one or some of them, please ask.

    And now the pictures:

It's definitely hidden and under advertised by the city. Amazingly though, each year their attendance grows and I think they are expecting some-where around 500,000 visitors in 2010.

I can't help but have a great time when I go, brings back all kinds of memories from my childhood. I've literally grown up with the place. It's one of the few things I would miss if I moved away from Kansas.

I've been through OP several times while visiting a friend who lives in KC. I sure wish we could have gone here, it's beautiful! I'm gonna check with him to see if he even knows about it.
