We went with our cousins to Knott's the summer this opened - I think we waited for 2 hours and were just in awe! (Of course, I was probably about 12).

It makes me sick in disgust at Knotts just watching it. Haven't been to the park since they closed this attraction.

It's a damn shame that Knott's took out this ride. The park desperately needs a dark ride like this.

I don't know why they have to remove it. Now, there no longer a dark ride at Knott's.

This ride also reminded me of Eddie Murphy "Beverly Hill Cop," when he was fighting crime at an amusement park.

Thanks for posting that, they have a great video on there. It's amazing to me that this rivals some of the top dark rides at Disneyland and they closed it. What should have happened was a complete refresh with new animatronics and redesigned exterior. This was a huge blow to creativity inside of Knotts.

What's spooky is that the attraction is still largely intact but vandalized.

Actually, the attraction that was there before Kingdom of the Dinosaurs had an even bigger Disney connection. It was called "Knott's Beary Tales", and it was basically a precursor to Splash Mountain. Rolly Crump designed the attraction, and it was the tale of a group of bears living in the woods who made Boysenberry pies, and they were taking them to the county fair. I remember going on this attraction distinctly when I was little. They even had the smell of Boysenberry piped in when you passed certain sections. Also, the entire track was rolling hills, so it felt like the cars were moving up & down..which they were! I was a very cute attraction, and one of the best non-Disney dark rides I've ever been on. Kingdom of the Dinosaurs was also great, but not as good as it's predecessor, in my opinion.

Haha, what I miss the most is how cheesy the T-Rex's roar used to be when the guests passed by it.

THANK YOU so much for posting this video; I have not seen it before...

It brought back a lot of memories; I have talked about "Knott's Berry Tales" before, and so many folks don't remember it; well done, and it was adorable!

(and the 'Hoosier' accents on the riders is hysterical!!

'So, we're now in the Frog Forest ey?'
'Now we're in the Gypsy Camp ey?''

                    Cracked me up!!)

Berry Tales was better, but either attraction was better than what is there now . . . nothing!

The days of Knott's trying to hold its own against Disney seem to be over. And that is sad. This park has an amazing history and at one time also had very high standards. I still love Knott's, but am disappointed that they seem to have given up on the family market.

With any luck, the buy out will go through and the new owners will pour the necessary money and creativity back into this jewel in the rough.

Omg!!!! I forgot how a great ride this was! (well, back then) It never had a line when I would go. I noticed they moved many props into the log ride there, like some animals, trees, & even the moon with the stars background!

Just imagine if Knotts had both these rides still in the park, it would be such a better place. Just a damn shame...

Oh, the irony! BHC III partially took place in a fictitous theme park called "Wonder World", with the exteriors shot on location at Great America in Santa Clara, which, at the time was "Paramount's Great America", making the movie kind of synergistic. (I'm pretty sure the dinosaur ride scenes were shot inside of a sound stage) Now, wouldn't you know, Great America is owned by Cedar Fairs, the current owners of Knott's!

I guess I'm one of the few that thought this ride SUCKED! Boring, rundown, and just stupid. Log Ride and Calico Mine Ride are so much better.

                                Good riddance.

                                  Thanks....

First off how did this ride suck? It was about 10 times more detailed than anything we have at DCA and the soundtrack was one of the best I have ever heard, it always gave me goosebumps. It was the one attraction that transported me into another world unlike the others at Knott's. With some care and investment it had a lot of potential in my opinion. New AA technology, special effects, and redesigned exterior would have gone a long way, a wasted opportunity. Judging by your reaction it would seem your more satisfied with nothing occupying that space, very sad considering what it had to offer.

Btw, I would love to hear your explanation on why the Calico Mine Train or the Log Ride is a better attraction and what Kingdom of the Dinosaurs did to deserve your hate? To me it was just as valuable as those two you listed.

I miss this attraction... It was one attraction that had so many memories I had as a kid... That and the Dolphin show they used to have next door was amazing too... Seeing the dolphins was a lot better than that piece of crap Perilous plunge which took out The Dolphin show, Greased Lightning, and The Whirlpool which was a pretty awesome scrambler ride! I hated when they moved that scrambler ride outdoors... it took away the awesome fun of Whirlpool!

What I dont like about Knotts... they had a habit of unbalancing what they took out to put one thing in... thus reducing the number of attractions in the park... if it was 1 for 1 I would not mind as much... but in the case of Kingdom of the Dinosaurs, its 1 for 0 as nothing occupies it anymore, Perilous Plunge is 1 for 3 since they took out the Dolphin Show, Whirlpool, and Greased Lightning, Sky Cabin Tower is 1 for 2 since they took out the Sky Jump, Ghost Rider is 1 for ___ however many shops and restaurants they deducted from the California Marketplace to put it in, and the goldmine entrance to the pan for gold, and La Revolucion is 1 for 2 as they took out Gran Slammer and Tampico Tumbler to put that in, Sierra Sidewinder is 1 for 2 as they took out the Walter Knott Steamboat and half of reflection lake... Silver Bullet is 1 for ___ as they took out all of indian trails and again half of reflection lake meaning that water show they used to do on the lake could no longer be done.... I love Knotts but this 1 for 2 or more is kinda getting to me.... I dont mind if its 1 for 1 but they have drastically reduced the number of attractions in the park by building a coaster or something... I think they have enough coasters now... I am happy with them leaving the coasters as I love the coasters and enjoy them as is but they should be focusing more on balancing the park out with family oriented attractions which is one reason we will not be taking our nieces to Knotts until they get tall enough to ride the larger rides

And whoever decided on making mystery lodge a show that plays every hour, come on, it used to run every 20 minutes... they cant even get the show thing done correctly like Disney which I would assume will play Captain EO every 20 minutes, because they do with HISTA! I mean its the small things that kinda kill Knotts... I love them but I also dislike some things that were done... If anything, maybe they could turn that dark ride building into a scary dark ride, something like a spook house theme, maybe if they could, they could bring back the dinosaurs with better technology, although I only mentioned the scary theme so that way they could utilize it also for Haunt by dressing up some of the already creepy looking sets!
