  • Trip Report Sir D's Trip to the Sierra Nevadas (Let's Do Some Fishing!)

    Howdy MiceChat!

Last week was our annual fishing trip my dad and I take up in the Sierra Nevadas with a bunch of his old retirement buddies. It was tons of fun, as usual, but for some reason I decided to bring my camera along with me this time. I ended up getting some pretty sweet shots, and I felt like sharing some of them with you guys!

Now unlike most of my other TR's, this one isn't really gonna be silly or very funny. It'll mostly be just nature pics (ooh! and some 3-dimensional stuff thrown in there as well!)
    Enjoy!

We started day 1 with a long drive up the 395 toward Bishop, where our hotel was.

This year was the first time we would be staying somewhere instead of camping out with the rest of the boys. (yes, we got tons of crap for it! ))

The mountains had a nice layer of snow on them. (little did we know, they would be getting much more than a layer later that night!)

We made a quick pit stop before checking in to drop a line in one of our smaller holes we remembered from last year.

Ok, here's where that 3D stuff I was talking about comes in. I was inspired by BoogaFrito's "Disneyland in 3D" thread and I had been wanting to try this out for myself for a while. Some came out better than others, but they're still pretty nifty!

(Just cross your eyes until the images "lock in" so to speak)

There'll be a few more popping up later so keep an eye out.

Back on the road again, we're heading out to our first official spot with the rest of the guys.

You really don't want to be hitting any deer up here......that sure could ruin a trip!

Don't see too many of these beauties get this big near home.

Alright, this is what we came here for!

And just FYI, it was cold.

    Very cold!

    Just beautiful.

Pine cones in the snow were fun.

    Couple more pine cone shots.

This lone boulder kinda looked like a headstone.

The night before, we were sitting around the campfire in the freezing cold when the sky just opened up and dumped the thickest snow I've ever seen for like 5 minutes. And then everything just stopped. It was just weird!
This is all that was left the next morning.

Living in SoCal, I'm a natural weather-wimp. Any normal weather is an extreme storm situation!

A failed attempt at a smiley face:

My reaction to the first smiley:

    Spotted a neat little bluejay.

It's just so pretty up here.

Headed back to the campground for a bit.

    Nature is just awesome.

This is my "holy crap, it's cold" face.

I thought these would make some nice wallpapers or something.

The next day, we were headed to one of the smaller lakes when we drive up on this:

Ain't nobody fishing in that lake!

    So we hit another spot.

If you ever need to cross the river, you never have to travel too far to find a decent bridge.

Heading up to Convict Lake now, my personal favorite spot. Not so much for the fishing, but just for the views alone.

    Ok, here are the "money-shots":

The creek that drains out of the lake is pretty good fishin' too.

    My lake:

    My spot:

    My gear:

    My lure:

    My goodness, this is relaxing.

So I'm just totally chilled out with my line in the water and not a care in the world, when I hear some rustling around my bag.
I look over, and see this:

This little guy was rummaging his way through my stuff in search of a quick bite to eat.......little scamp!

Well, I just happened to be munching on one of these things at the time.....

And it wasn't long before he took notice.

This guy wasn't bashful at all!

He knew exactly what he wanted and he was gonna get it!

    Happily munching away....

    Cute little bugger!

Well, it was time to be heading out.
So one parting shot of me...

    And my little companion.

Since this was our last day, we decided that we were finished fishing, and it was time to do a little sightseeing. We made it out to Hot Creek. Neither of us had heard of it before, but we were sure glad we checked it out!
Apparently, Hot Creek is a geothermal hot spot with lots of activity reported all the time. It's called "Hot Creek" because one of the eruption points literally spills out into the running river below, thus heating up the entire creek to scalding temperatures.

    Noted!

    Noted!

From here it looks like a normal river.

But here's where all the action is.

    Neat!

It's just gorgeous anywhere you go in this valley.

We followed this old road for a few miles, just to see if we might be able to get to the river a little farther downstream. Turns out we could!

    Pops and his truck.

By the way, I touched the water. It was still warm miles away from the hot spring!

So glad we ventured out here!

On the way back, we spotted a bunch of Bambis!

    Just chillaxin'

Ok, the spring was starting to look a bit angry......I think we should leave.

Yeah, we're definitely getting outta here!

One last shot of me and the hot creek.

And thanks for checking this out!
    Can't wait till next year!
