  • Trip Report Atlanits Marine World in Riverhead, NY!

    Part 1:

For Yoyoflamingo's birthday last month, he wanted to go to Atlantis Marine World Long Island Aquarium an aquarium here on the 'island. They have a promotion where you get in for free on your birthday, plus I had a coupon so my admission was reduced

    Here's the entrance:

When you walk in, to the left is a stingray tank, straight ahead is where they keep the rescued animals and animals in recovery and to the right is a fake pier!

Looking out to the pier area:

The main room with all of the aquariums:

    Neptune??

    The rainforest area:

Now for a few fishies and other animals:

Turtles are my FAVORITE and they had several! This is a HUGE guy, he was new. He was with the sharks (no pics) and you can actually go into a cage and swim with the sharks

    aWWW HE;S SO CUTE!!!!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

    Part 2:

They have a whole slew of stuff outside too:
    Fountains!

    Neptune again?

So pretty. There were gators to the right of this.

Penguin Pavilion entrance... wonder what is inside?

Penguins!!! Duh They do penguin feedings, but we decided it was too hot to sit and wait.

Outside the berm! ruining the magic. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!1

This was a little wading area where kids could touch crabs and such.

This ride looked cool, goes up and spins slowly so you can view the whole area.

Inside the building where Neptune or whoever oversees was a little informational exhibit and digging and ruins for kids. You could even go down the tunnel just like a real archeologist.

    More turtles!!

Look at this guy!! Love the expression.

My new monkey baboon?friend. Talk about facial expressions!!

    Tortoise!

Stingrays that you could feed and pet.

    Sup Buddy?

    I arrrr a pirate!

    Arcade entrance:

And now, the non-sanctioned by Disney part of my trip report:

We now return you back to the regularly scheduled trip report:
Giant shark and a climbing wall

      Part 3:

Having had enough of the HEAT we decided to go back inside while we waited for the sea lion show to start.

      giant shark with an overbite:

Inside the rescue and recovery center were more turtles!

There is a sea lion viewing area inside. Those guys were FAST!!!

Waiting for the show... that is the sea lion exhibit. Pretty cool.

As you can see, it was "Aquarium Idol" sea lion vs. human in singing and dancing! I didn't get a pic of the human,. but she was hilarious.

They also has these cool fake posters that reminded me of Disney a bit.

(Can you see how the fish make out an arrow?)

All in all, it was an enjoyable few hours. Not something I would do too often, but it was a fun day out. (And after we went to the outlet and got free Slurpees - yum!!)
