  • Marvel "Theme Park" Moving Forward

This is not about the rumored third gate at the Disneyland Resort. A few years ago Marvel announced their plans to build Marvel Superheroes Theme Park at Dubailand. The project halted when the global economy tanked, but now Disney has apparently agreed to allow the project to continue moving forward in a scaled down form. While Disney is not actively involved in development in the project, it still could show us what Marvel thinks of in regards to a Marvel theme park.

[Updated, 11:02 a.m. June 27: Disney, for its part, is taking an arms-length approach to the project. The corporate parent of Marvel has gone to great lengths to make clear that the Dubai project is strictly a licensing agreement not involving Disney theme parks or Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative arm of the company. To that end, Marvel issued a statement that read in part: "The Marvel entertainment destination is not a theme park, it is a family entertainment center."
