I thought I would post this information as I am sure many of you may not be aware, but I am also sure many of you POTC fans would be interested to hear this. I am new to the forum, so apologies if this is in the wrong place, I don't think it is though.
-------------------------
In the late 1980's the owners of a relatively small UK park, called Drayton Manor, were inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean at DLC. They loved the ride so much it was decided that they wanted to build their own version, albeit on a smaller scale and much lower budget. This ride was to be built on a vacant plot of land next to their other Disney inspired ride The Jungle Cruise. Drayton's version which was also called The Jungle Cruise was removed at the start of the 2002 season. To be replaced by a highly themed tow boat ride, which closed at the end of last year.
So, back to Pirate adventure...
Pirate Adventure opened for the start of the 1990 season, costing 3.5 million UK pounds to design and construct. The two rides have lots of things in common, with POTC naturally, being far far superior. Some of the things they have in common or did have in common are the following:
# A ride system that consists of boats moved along by flowing water. With both ride systems made by MACK rides.
# Both rides housed in a warehouse or show building. (which ever you prefer)
# Talking parrot at the entrance to the ride.
# A full battle scene between a ship and a castle in which the boats pass between the two.
# Jail scene, with animal holding keys. I believe Pirate Adventure the animal is a goat
# The famous man chasing a woman going round and round. Last time I rode Drayton's version, staff had re positioned the man so that it looked like his hands were going into places they should not be!
# Boats go down drops (Although just one on Pirates Adventure.
# Cave scenes with skeletons and lots of booty!
# Pirates plundering a burning town.
# Lots of animatronics, although Drayton's have fell into a sorry state due to lack on maintenance.
------------------
That is all I can remember now, I am sure there are more, if they come to me I will post.
Drayton's version is rumored to be getting removed in a few seasons, for the show building to become a dark ride as part of the neighboring Thomas the tank engine land. The ride has suffered from lack of maintenance over the years, and is now in quite a sorry state with lots of things broken and in a state of dis repair.
Here are a few pictures.

Finally a smaller picture showing the rides show building at the top of the picture and the lake below that used to be home of The Jungle Cruise.
