  • Getting to Six Flags Magic Mountain - Please help

    Hello,

I'm putting the finishing touches on my July 2005 California trip. I don't drive, but I'll be staying in Hollywood ( during part of the trip ). While there, I'd like to visit Magic Mountain. Since it'll be peak season, we want to maximize our time ( preferably from opening to closing time ). This means organised tours such as VIP Tours and Charters are out of the question - they give far too little time at the park. I've looked at getting there and back by public transport ( busses, subway ), but it's all not very easy to understand. Do busses even run that late, untill midnight?

Does anyone have an idea what other options there might be? I understand the distance involved is about 30 miles, one way. Anyone have an estimate of what a taxi ride would cost for that, for two people?

    Many thanks for any help!

Taking a taxi that distance would cost a small fortune.

You'd be better off renting a car for a day or two than doing that, and it's pretty easy to get to SFMM from Hollywood.

Keep in touch, no promises, but you might find a board member or two that might want to go to Magic Mountain on the same day.... cost, well, maybe a beer and a meal (A lot cheaper than a Taxi!)

Unfortunately, California is not transit friendly.

Ok.. here is the senic route... Hop on an Eastm west Interstate and go east untill you hit I-75 or I-95... then go on that untill you hit GA.. Keep on going... when you hit WDW.. You are halfway there... now go on I-75 or I-95.. go north anbd head for CA.... Once you get there.. hehe... Take a bus or cab..... faster...

If all else fails, go on a weekday. There'll still be decent sized crowds, but still managable if you are time-constrained by a charter bus. And also, save time by not waiting in line for Flashback, unless you are in to torture.

Wow... pretty long lines; but hopefully the park will continue it's recent trend of doing fairly well at running rides to capacity (I'm sure somebody will scream at me for that, but it's been like that RECENTLY). Six Flags Holland was a lot of fun (I guess it's Walibi Wavre again?); maybe we can show you around Six Flags Madhouse- er - MAGIC Mountain

Six Flags Holland is called Walibi World this year ( used to be Walibi Flevo before the Flagging ). Walibi Wavre changed into Sux Flags Belgium in 2001, en for 2005 it's Walibi Belgium.

I'm betting that in 5 years time, we'll see another sell-off and yet another name change

                      Hehe, that'd be cool
It's going to be one helluva challenge to get in as many coasters as possible during one day

Waiting for Flashback is no longer an option.

First of all, the ride hasn't been open in 2 years.

Second, it's never open during the summer anyway because of Hurricane Harbor.

Third, they disconnected the power supply to the ride, so I doubt it will ever reopen.

In the mean time , we have to figure out how to get these guys to MM. As he stated, they don't drive. I'm not having much luck locating bus or shuttle service out of LA to there. Anybody else have any suggestions?

The city of Santa Clarita has transit busses that go to some areas of the San Fernando Valley (or, the Valley). Busses from Hollywood go to the Valley where you might be able to connect to one of these busses. I don't know how late they run though. Go to the City of Santa Clarita's website at http://www.santa-clarita.com/. Click on the city services link and then the transit link. The schedules are available there.

Hope this will help, otherwise your stuck with the taxi.
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???

Okay, thanks for the tips you all! I guess I'll have to do with an organised tour. Disneyland will be the main part of the trip anyway

If you end up not having much time at MM, just go on Goliath, Colossus, and X and your trip up there will be well worth the time.

Coming back to the subject of a taxi for a bit:

Are taxi's paid for per person or per ride, independent of the amount of people travelling? And is there perhaps any bus / subway / whatever station where busses go to LA quit late ( 10 PM or so ), that is near SFMM...anywhere?

Anyone have a very rough estimate of the cost of a taxi ride?

                                    Hi all,

I may have found an answer: Prime Time Shuttle. They offer trips from SFMM to Union Station...60 USD for 2 people, and this is after 10 PM. I can get to Hollywood from Union Station. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they reliable? I sure hope they are

Take the subway... has multiple stops in Hollywood, and goes straight to Union Station.

walk, skateboard, magic carpet, but I don't understand why anyone would want to go to six flags mm anyway because of all the gangbangers
