SANTA CLARA -- Authorities are investigating the death of a 4-year-old boy who drowned in a wave pool at Great America in Santa Clara.

The San Jose boy was pulled out of the amusement park's Boomerang Lagoon around 2:30 this afternoon. Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.

Park officials say the boy was in about two feet of water when he drowned. He was attending the park with his mother and sister.

The wave pool has been closed while officials investigate the incident.

The last reported fatality at Great America happened eight years ago when a 12-year-old boy fell from the Drop Zone Stunt Tower.
