    Six Flags Magic Mountain
    Announces New Attraction Lineup for
    2008 Season

    X2 and THOMAS & FRIENDS(TM) Highlight
    the Thrill Park's Additions

VALENCIA, Calif., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Six Flags Magic Mountain today announced its new capital plans for the 2008 operating season. The world's leading thrill park unveiled a lineup that includes an impressive new twist on the park's most popular, state-of-the-art coaster, X -- adding an innovative and totally immersive sight and sound experience -- elevating the world's first four-dimensional roller coaster into the 5th dimension to become X2. Also, for the littlest thrill seekers, the world-famous Thomas the Tank Engine(TM) pulls into the newly-created children's play area, Thomas Town(SM).

"X2 and Thomas Town are part of a very exciting season we have planned for 2008, as we continue our mission of making Six Flags synonymous with an entertainment experience that delivers thrills for the entire family," said Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President. "For our more adventurous guests, we will take our one-of-a-kind coaster, X, and deliver a whole new extreme experience with X2, while young children and their parents can spend quality time together in our new Thomas Town. Six Flags Magic Mountain has been thrilling guests and making family memories for over 36 years and our new additions will help us continue to do so for years to come!"

X LAUNCHES INTO A NEW GALAXY, BECOMING X2

X, the world's first 4th dimensional thrill ride, is once again pushing all limits and taking extreme to the next level in 2008. This $10 million investment features completely redesigned, sleeker trains and introduces all-new, innovative state-of-the-art visual, audio and sensory effects, X will move from the 4th dimension to the 5th and become X2!

"Since it opened in 2002, X, with its 360-degree rotating seats and head-first, face down drops, has been one of the most popular thrill rides on the planet," stated Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President. "With the redesign, X2 will take even the most daring riders on a journey to a unique and unchartered dimension of extreme only Six Flags Magic Mountain can deliver."

Unlike traditional coasters where trains only parallel the track, X sends riders screaming around its 3,600-foot maze of steel track aboard massive wing-shaped trains where the seats extend off the track to the sides of the vehicle allowing them to independently rotate guests head over heels, forward and backward creating a one-of-a-kind "don't know what to expect next" sensation. X2 launches the extreme thrills of X into a new dimension with the addition of a unique new tunnel and light experience that changes with every ride. X2 is one of 14 coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain -- Southern California's leader in thrills!

In order for the transformation to take place, X will close in late 2007, and X2 will launch in spring 2008.

ALL ABOARD! THE NEXT STOP ON THIS TRAIN IS SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN, AS THE PARK WELCOMES THOMAS & FRIENDS(TM) IN 2008

A newly-created Thomas & Friends themed area called Thomas Town(SM), will open in spring 2008. Designed to entertain children of all ages, Thomas Town centers around a train ride on a Thomas the Tank Engine(TM) replica that transports guests on a journey through Thomas' home on the Island of Sodor. Visitors will be greeted by Sir Topham Hatt(SM), the Controller of the Railway, who is also available to pose for photos with Thomas fans. In addition to other attractions, the area features a Thomas & Friends store.
With Thomas & Friends, children enter a world of imagination through the tracks of a train and the words of a story. As children engage in fun with their engine friends, adventures unfold that lead to timeless life lessons. Parents and children enjoy a unique connection on every journey.
With the addition of Thomas Town, Six Flags Magic Mountain now includes over 30 rides and attractions for children and their families to enjoy together.

"We are very excited to welcome Thomas Town to Six Flags Magic Mountain," stated Jay Thomas, Six Flags Magic Mountain Park President. "This beloved character has engaged and inspired preschoolers' imaginations for more than six decades and will certainly offer a rich, exciting world for children and their parents to enjoy, as families look for more ways to spend quality time together."

Six Flags Magic Mountain, is located at 26101 Magic Mountain Parkway, Valencia, north of Los Angeles off Interstate 5 at the Magic Mountain Parkway exit. The Park is currently open weekends and school holidays. For information call (661) 255-4111 or visit us online at sixflags.com.

I love that X will have the new trains. Hopefully they have re-designed the station as well to allow easier loading/unloading.

X should techinically be a great ride, but it's either smooth as glass, or it beats you up. (most likely the latter in recent years)

Maybe we will have to get SF passes again next year.

Well X2 sounds really fun. I am however confused about the Thomas thing...especially how it relates to when Thomas visits fillmore every spring, and how does he relate to anything else in the park.

30 rides for the whole family...I need to figure how they got to that count. I would love to take my kids there expecially since its so close. I am glad they are trying to be more of a family park, but I am not sure simply adding a Thomas area is going to reverse the stigma that they currently have.

        A little piece of heaven

They are probably just going to rename everything in the kids area. I wouldn't count on any major in terms of rides or attractions for the Thomas area.
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???

well i hope X gets smoother. and i guess it's one of the most popular rides, but a 3 hour line doesn't necessarily make it popular when you can only load 4 trains in one hour.

X isn't my cup of tea (yea, I'm old) but that Thomas the Tank Engine Town sounds cute!! I'm glad they are putting in a little train ride, that's awesome!

From what I understand, the Thomas area is NOT Bugs Bunny World. (They'd be STUPID to lose BBW).

My guess is the Thomas land will be going where Psyclone was.

That would be interesting, having two childrens/family/whatever areas not next to each other. That'd be cool.

This is my assumption as well. Although it is just one ride now, they are calling the area where Thomas is going "Thomas Town" (why not just call it Sodor?), there is no room for it in the BBW area and its nice to have something for kids back in that part of the park.

From what I know Thomas the Tank Engine area will be right next to Bugs Bunny World. Someone told me that the train will be in the same area as the old one was.

The ONLY space that is next to BBW would be if they removed Flashback. As of now, I haven't heard of that happening and it's still the worlds most expensive lawn ornament (with no lawn).

The train in BBW is nothing more than a train you will find in most shopping malls. So that would be kind of stupid if they are promoting a mall train as the new for 2008 attraction.

Actually, I thought Flashback had just been listed for sale. If so, then that area is certainly available.

However, I do remember a time when there was a train that ran across the back of the park, back in the Spillikan Corners/Troll days. Anyone else remember that?
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Hi Jester, I have fond memories of that train (not so fond memories of Spilikan Corners) My grandparents took me and my brother to Magic Mountain the first week of June 1971, the park was about a week old. I've been going ever since, less since it got funky the last 15 years.

Here is the train from a post card series, early 70's:

BTW, I want the METRO BACK!!!! What could it cost to bring it back in service? It's all there, you can see it on google earth, the cars, the track, the stations, the service building, all still intact.

Early Metro pic: (I want the Grand Prix cars back too!):

Hey, this is my first post to micechat, I've finally come out of the shadows..!!! LOL!

                                  Welcome matt91304.

There were actually rumors that the Metro was coming back in 2008. But I'm assuming since it wasn't announced along with Thomas and X2 that it's either not happening or has been delayed.

Could have something to do with the fact that the company that made the trains (and therefore the parts) is no longer in business. Could have something else to do with the fact the tracks have not been used in how many years now? I'm sure getting the metro back up and running cost more than a new coaster.

As for the train and Spillikin Corners... well, I remember the Corner, but not the train so much. My first memory of the park is riding the Mountain Express. Well, I don't remember it, but I've seen pictures of me riding it. LOL. Don't recall how old I was. My earliest memory (that I can remember) is Sarajevo Bobsleds.

We didn't get SFMM passes this year (first time I haven't had a SFMM pass in about 17 or 18 years). I think we are getting passes next year, but also because we are planning on visiting some other Six Flags parks.

One thing I didn't notice from the flyer was whether they still offer the $25 Hurricane Harbor add-on pass.

Also, I would HIGHLY suggest getting the XTREME pass. Not only does it include free parking ($15 per visit) but also 4 flash-passes each visit. It will be worth the extra $$.

Flashback is indeed for sale, but I don't believe that's the home of the new Thomas train. From what I've heard, it's going on the other side of BBW, continuing on the path towards Buccaneer, etc. For those of you that go WAY back, it would be the former location of the Little Sailor Ride.

The train that Matt91304 so beautifully posted was the regular one which had a station in Spillikin Corners with a good view of the Jet Stream. But there was also a separate "Train to Trollywood" which was closed first.

Thanks for the Nice Welcome Sir Clinksalot....

I heard the same information that the Metro's manufacturer is long out of business and I also thought it would be hard to bring the metro back due to this. However, I hear Six Flags Over Georgia has the same ride system (From 67 I think) and it's still in use today! They must fabricate the parts they need. As far as the track, it still looks pretty good; the electric rails are still up there and look ok too. I guess I am a bit of dreamer here... Hey I also want the People Mover back, but I am NOT ready to jump in that shark tank of a thread!

Of course then there is this I found on the net:announcementThe train ("99 Steam Train" or "Troll Train") was at the park from 71 to 81, so since the first visit you remember was on the rare Sarajevo Bobsleds (84 to 86), you probably don't remember seeing the train on earlier visit cause you were so young.

The Mountain Express - WOW, now there a cool little coaster (73 to 81, now the present site of Flashback, future site of?). I have a post card shot of the Mountain Express in it's heyday, I will post it later today. Do you still have your photo? Post it if you can!
