  • [Question] Sea World San Diego 1976

Looking for people who attended Sea World San Diego from 1976 - 1978.

Did anyone see a large 18 foot Great White Shark frozen and on display.

Would really like photographs of this shark.

    Please help if you can.

    Best wishes

You might want to contact Al Lutz. While I don't think he has photos, he is fond of telling stories about that shark and its declining condition throughout the hot summer.

They tried to keep it alive, but when it died, they froze it and put it on display. The story gets a little fishy after a few weeks of freezing, thawing, and power problems.

        Thanks for email.

The shark was landed at Dana Point after being harpooned off Catalina Island. It was 4,150lbs and had a girth of 10' 2".

Sea World's first frozen shark was 12' 8".
