  • [Idea] Expansion!!

    Hey Everyone!

I am a first time forum member who is a big fan of Sea World, particularly, the "theme park" aspect of it. I have had a Sea World Silver Passport for going on 10 years now and was one of the first people to ride Journey to Atlantis, when it opened in 2004.

Anyway, I wanted to get peoples opinion regarding expanding Sea World. The area east of Sea World is barren and underused. It is a great location next to the 5 freeway that can be used for anything from a Hotel to a Water Park. What does anyone think?

If I had my way, I would expand it to incorporate a new roller-coaster, something exclusive to San Diego. In addition, perhaps working with the Scripps Institute of Oceanography to build an aquarium that rivals some of the more famous in the world (looking at you Monterey). A hotel would be great there, but with the Hilton down the road, it might infringe upon their business (not that I care about that, mind you).

Anyway, if anyone has any Ideas regarding an expansion of Sea World, I would like to hear it. It is a great park that deserves to be in the same breath as other famous Southern California parks (Disneyland, Legoland, Knotts Berry Farm, etc.)...

    Thanks,

    Drummerbrin

          Re: Expansion!!

I've lived in San Diego since 1974, so I've watched Seaworld grow through at least four different owners . That plot of land was eyed by them for while. The reason why the area east of the park is vacant is that at one time it was a dump, and as it turns out it was what is now classified as toxic waste. It is city owned land, and to be used for anything would require the cleansing of the property. Which means big bucks that the city doesn't have. I doubt that Blackstone would pay for the cleanup, so don't expect anything to happen there in the future.
