  • [Rumor] Reef Runner "underwater" Coaster Ride Adventure To The Deep Abyss

    Source: Screamscape

Ever wanted to take a thrilling "underwater" ride adventure into a deep abyss via a speeding coaster? Mark your calendars for 2014. The place: Sea World San Diego. SWSD is building itself up quite a roster of dashing, splashing rides between Journey To Atlantis (a flume/coaster), Wild Arctic (a simulated helecopter ride/real arctic life encounter), Shipwreck Rapids, Baside Skyride (think Disneylands Skyride...only over a bay to a restaurant), Skytower...and now the coming reef Runner! Catch the thill...watch out for eels!

I'd really like some more details on that ride. Is it "underwater" as in traveling through tubes in an aquarium? Or is it simulated underwater environments in a dark ride? Sounds intriguing, at least.

There have been rumors about a coaster coming to SWSD for as long as I can remember. I'll believe it when I see it.

The indoor portion would most likely be a simulated under water environment. If on the outside the coaster is to travel beneath the water, then it would have to travel thru a tube. As Sea World was highly innovative when it created an underwater tube for water slide riders at it's Aquatica waterpark in Florida, it may well have it's sights on being the first to run a roller coaster thru an underwater tube. I figure an indoor simulated environment would be a given. An outdoor underwater tube I'm not as sure about. Hope this happens for our California Sea World.

I didn't realize this. How aggravating. Well, let's hope that the park finally gets a coaster this time...as long overdue as it is.

Reef Runner seems to be kind of a generic name as it is the fishing boat brand, and also the moniker for a half-pipe waterslide at Six flags America. Perhaps this is the name Sea World would use, or it could change should they build th ride.
