  • News Kids Free for 2012 at SeaWorld and Busch Gardens (Orlando)

    This just in!

    A Preschool Pass introduced Wednesday will give free, unlimited admission to Florida kids ages 5 and younger to SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay theme parks through the end of 2012.The offer is available exclusively online (www.SeaWorldOrlando.com or www.BuschGardensTampaBay.comSeaWorld also is preparing a Just for Kids fest that will run for four consecutive Saturdays, beginning Jan. 14. Entertainers will include LazyTown, Max & Ruby, the Doodlebops and Choo Choo Soul.

    That’s the kind of life I’d wish for the dolphin I saw swimming in circles in the tank at Epcot---and for all the others in captivity.

    For decades, SW had us convinced that it was fun for a whale to live at an amusement park. (Not to mention safe.)

    It’s not the 1970’s anymore. Information is more available today and attitudes are changing. More people are stepping away from the crowds and deciding they’re not going to support that kind of entertainment any more.
    From an "entertainment" standpoint... no... whales in particular need more room. Dolphins, even wild ones, will actually "learn" tricks for the fun of it, but whales are different.

    From an educational standpoint... yes... it is difficult to convince a generation that a species is "worth" protecting if they never see it. Zoos and aquariums act as ambassadors of the animal species. Sea World in particular has collections that rival many aquariums...
