  • Six Flags Magic Mountain: Physics Lesson?

Today in my Physics APB class, we watched a video that had parts shot at Six Flags Magic Mountain. They used a freefall ride to illustrate one of Galileo's ideas about gravity. They also used a lot of 80's clothes, so the ride might no longer be there. We used to have a ride of the same type here at Six Flags over Texas, but it was removed in the last few years. Does anyone know the name of this ride (at Magic Mountain, not over Texas)?

Freefall. It's no longer there, it got removed about a year or so ago. If I'm not mistaken, all versions of this freefall have been now removed, due to the large amount of maintenance they required. Modern freefall towers go higher, provide the same thrills, and are a lot less work to keep up.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Actually, at least one still exists: Demon Drop at Cedar Point.

I thought it was because someone got injured on it.

Accidentally posted twice... can't delete my post for some reason?

I am not aware of any injuries at Freefall(at least not at SFMM), the ride became just to time consuming to mantain. It was one of these rides that still had me scared a little, no matter how many times I have been on it

Today I saw another video in the same series, which again featured Freefall, but also featured the loop of Revolution as a visual aid for centripital force.

^ I think I watched the same video. Does it have the clip of Freefall with little cars running along in front of it?

Re: Six Flags Magic Mountain: Physics Lesson?

Yes it does. I believe the series is called "Mechanical Universe", and features creepy 80's synthesiser music. I'm not really sure why we watch these videos, as they don't really help us understand what the video is about.

Yeah, that's it. It was a pretty *trippy* video; I especially liked the wordless segments on the equations rearranging themselves.

I work at that Six Flags : Magic Mountain.

They removed it because it was in a bad position.

Not many people even knew it was there (being in the exit of riddlers revenge)

                      It was demo'd
