  • Dead Leaves and the Not So Dirty Ground : An SFMM Trip report

My skip the line pass, earned from my previous visit as part of SFMM's season passholder rewards program, was going to expire so I decided to take a trip out there last Friday, May 7.

I had a great day there and got on 21 rides highlighted by

    Goliath x 3
    Batman x 2
    Tatsu x 1
    Terminator Salvation x 2
    Superman x 2
    X2 x 5

    More to come...

Looks like the crowds were quite light that day... I like the "Coaster Hero" shirt!! (Although I am not much of a coaster fan, go figure...)

Arrow didn't completely go away, they just got swallowed up by S&S power (which is an American company). And S&S is building a new 4D coaster in China.

I'm not a big fan of the Blue Batman, I really liked the colorless theme and gray track, it really evoked Gotham City a lot more than the Spider-Man blue they used, which is really vivid it looks like.

Also, I find it kind of bittersweet that Arrow Dynamics has finally been validated, albeit almost 10 years too late. They came into this world changing rollercoasters forever, and they exited it changing rollercoasters forever. Technical glitches and bugs are absolutely expected in a brand-new and innovative design that's never been attempted before, and time has proven that Arrow Dynamics was ahead of its time by a good decade and today their rollercoaster is more popular than anything else in the park. X(2) is their gift to rollercoaster enthusiasts... it's so sad to see an American company fall to international competitors, but at least their legacy is ensured for many years to come!

im willing to wager the blue paint scheme could be to match with the bat man brave and the bold cartoon series.. since they went with the grey suit blue hood and cape for the show..i could be wrong..but the painting of the ride is just to much a cowinkydink

Yeah the purpose of the new trains was to implement a revised train design that would be lighter, have less moving parts, and vastly improves the reliability of the ride. X was down for long periods of time and regularly broke down for various reasons, and that was just unacceptable. Fortunately the efforts in making sure X2 could operate daily & reliably have all panned out really, really well.

However, a smoother ride wasn't a part of the new design. If anything, less weight means for an increase in potential bounce of the wings of the train. But I haven't heard reports of a rougher ride than before. Just the same sort of inside seat is smoother than outside seat reports.

Hi Plagued, I never rode X as I stayed away from SFMM during that period of time so I'm not a complete authority on all the upgrades on X2.

Other than the music and fire, I believe that the new X2 trains are lighter and produce less wear on the tracks plus make for smoother rides. Also the tracks have been painted red and grey.

i've ridden X, but having not been to SFMM in such a long time, what changes were made to denote the upgrade to X2? i've heard they added music and fire.. but for some reason i want to believe there's more?

Ah, that was the hidden mickey you were talking about. That reminds me of that hidden mickey cactus by Thunder Mountain.

Oh, I'm fully aware of the pass and it's optimal usage, I just think it's funny you used it on such an off day, haha, but it's true, I would've done the same so it wouldn't expire also.
