Well, it looks like Red Zone is taking over Six Flags...

How many of you have been watching this drama play out?

Red Zone is an investment firm that is owned by Dan Snyder.

Sort of like how Shamrock Holdings is owned by Roy Disney...

      Anyway...
Red Zone is the largest investor in Six Flags...
Also among it's assets are the Washington Redskins...

He placed a takeover bid of Six Flags, which has had a faultering stock price... It price has mostly been driven by 2 billion dollars in debt.

That isn't the kicker... The kicker is that the Six Flags first - and only time in profit was first quarter of this year...

It is believed, at least among the investment community that the realignment will change the focus of the parks to make them more family friendly...

Looks like Snyder and Co. are now on the board:

Although I agree SF needs a shake up, not exactly sure Snyder is the answer. Some of the suggestions he's mentioned to turn SF around aren't really what the parks need. Throwing money and more advertising in the parks aren't going to fix the real problems of parks like SFMM (bad customer service and park/ride upkeep and maintenance). Hopefully I'm wrong and this will really be a turning point for the chain. SFMM has so much potential, could really be a world class theme park if it were run by someone who had a grasp of what truly makes a great theme park experience.

A bit shocked about this developement.... last I had heard from a former Cedar Point manager that still keeps pretty close ties to the company, Cedar Fair was trying to gather up enough to place a bid on Six Flags. I guess that didn't turn out too well.

Well there was an interesting reaction in the Motley Fool about it...

            http://www.fool.com/news/commentary/...gvisit=y&npu=y

Apparently Munarriz thinks that they may be going after some resort dollars instead of actually selling off property for standard real estate developing...

If this is the case, the teen friendly marketing scheam may be a thing of the past in favor of family entertainment and tourism $$$...

If this is the case, it may actually be that some parks are infact going to be sold so they can focus on developing key resorts...

            But this is all speculative...

The coasterbuzz.com podcast has a 30 minute rant on the whole thing, from Snyder's idea of running the company to other things. Great listen.

BTW, Snyder has never gone and said that guest satisfaction is one of his goals, only maximizing shareholder profits and making money. Uh-oh!
