A tropical retreat for guests 21 and over just in time for summer

As temperatures rise this summer - get out of the house and beat the heat at Hurricane Harbor's newest attraction opening this summer: Pirates Paradise. Open only on weekends, this tropical retreat - located near Red Eye's and complete with the rhythmic Caribbean sounds of steel-drums - will be serving up refreshingly, cold alcoholic beverages to help you kick back and relax. You must be 21 and older to enjoy Pirate's Paradise, unless accompanied by an adult.

Hurricane Harbor kicks off the season Memorial Day Weekend on Saturday May 26 and begins daily operations on June 9. Purchase a season pass - buy four and receive a FREE Season Parking Pass ($50 value) when you process ID's at Season Pass Processing Center by June 3 - and unwind at Pirate's Paradise every weekend.

Extreme thrill-seekers can plunge into Tornado's six-story vortex of adrenalin-pumping velocity or brave the harrowing high-speed water slides of Black Snake Summit, including two of the tallest enclosed water slides in Southern California. Families can float together along a scenic 1,300 foot-long lazy river or skip waves at the Forgotten Sea Wave Pool. Little swashbucklers (max 54" tall) can splash around on their own or with their parents at Castaway Cove, a large play area designed exclusively for them, or play up a storm with new friends at Splash Island, another play area boasting several water slides, rain curtains and squirting water fountains.
    Pirates Paradise

The new Pirates Paradise opened over Memorial Weekend. The area is essentially a bar area that doesn't really blend into the waterpark too much.

If anything it reminds us a bit of the Lost Bar at the Disneyland Hotel (before it was rethemed)

The bar area has a pirates/tiki theme

    The bar menu

A Steel Drum band plays every hour or so and is a nice addition.

The area, while nice needs a bit more to incorporate it into the Waterpark. A nice swim-up bar would be a nice touch to make it more popular. Even for a busy Saturday the area wasn't very busy.

    Flash Pass

The other new addition to the Waterpark this year was the Flash Pass. We didn't utilize the Flash Pass during our visit but the park has done a great job blending the Flash Pass into the existing attractions.

Your first stop is to the Flash Pass Sales Center where you can purchase the Regular or Gold Flash Pass

Each attraction on the Flash Pass has a number assigned to it

You take your Flash Pass bracelet to one of the kiosks located throughout the park and select your ride time.

There are approximately 6-8 Kiosks located throughout the park so there is no need to return to the Flash Pass Sales Center to select your next ride.

Yep, Tornado was the last thing they added in 2004.

They did re-do the kids play area a couple of years ago. Hopefully with the Flashback/Metro area being cleared they'll use that for SFHH expansion.

^ We were invited out there by SFMM last weekend to cover it for In The Parks. Unfortunately due to some other issue we were unable to make it out there.

It's possible we may be able to get up there for a few hours on Saturday, Sunday is out due to the Coasting for Kids event at Knott's.

If we don't get up there this weekend, we will certainly try and get up there the following weekend. Pics will be coming soon. Promise. Just too much stuff going on right now.

Leave it to Six Flags to have a bar at a waterpark. Anybody want their kids swimming with possibly drunk adults? :thumbdown

Someone obviously felt that people need to drink to have a good time.
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???

Finally made it up to Hurricane Harbor last week to check out the new Pirates Paradise and see how the Flash Pass works at the waterpark.

                          How much are Flash Passes?

As for he bar...don't mind it...what I do mind is the fact that we have not gotten a new water slide in years. We know they even had a cheap one to put in the old Yosemite Sam ride from Six Flags
                          Happy Halloween!!!

Flash Passes depend on the day.

When we went Saturday the 9th they were $20 for the Regular, $30 for the Gold.

We went yesterday for Fathers Day and it was $10 for the Regular, $15 for the Gold.

Not sure if it's based on crowd (it was less busy yesterday) or if they just haven't been selling.

But I don't believe they are marketed as bars at the water parks, correct?
