I'm late. I just watched Coraline on DVD this evening and the first thing that was a surprise was that it's Focus Features, which is owned by Universal. Then I asked myself... why isn't there more synergy going on the way Disney does?
Everywhere I look at Universal, I see things that AREN'T Universal property.
-Marvel
-Spongebob Squarepants
-Shrek
-Terminator
-The Simpsons
-Transformers (upcoming)
Over in Florida:
-Harry Potter
-Men in Black
-Twister
Universal properties that got kicked out:
-Back to the Future
-E.T.
-Backdraft (eventually)
Ok so what am I getting at. CORALINE! A beautiful film that could be an amazing little dark ride for the theme parks.
Yah, you know... rides.. something that Universal is always lacking!
And then I think about the other family / animated movies that they have: An American Tale, Land Before Time, etc... and wow, they never done ANYTHING with those properties in terms of rides. Fievel got a playland which is insulting (now it's Curious George with the playground).
I know space is limited but the thing is.. I don't see Coraline ANYTHING at Universal Studios. Did I miss it? Am I late? Was there anything?
Should there be?
