  • USH - Wisteria Lane

I've read conflicting reports so I am hoping a local who goes often can help.

I'm doing Disneyland the first week of March and one of my main reasons for visiting USH will be to get a glimpse of the Housewives set (Wisteria Lane). I've read that it's only a part of the tour on weekends, but then I read somewhere else that the trams do go through the lane on weekdays when filming might be occuring but that they just go silent to compensate.

I really, really want to make sure I see Wisteria Lane, so any help is appreciated! I only will have one real weekend day to go (a Sunday) so I'd rather go on another day, but since this is such a big deal for me I'll go whenever I need to. Of course, I'd love to shell out the $250 for the private tour, but I don't think my travel companion can afford to do that as well so I'll have to stick with the plain-'ol tram tour.

    Thanks so much!

Most of the filming for this season of Desperate Housewives should be completed by then, I think?

I've had visits where the trams passed by but had to remain silent, I've had visits where the whole area was bypassed and I've had visits where filming was taking place but we didn't have to go silent. There's no way to really know ahead of time, unfortunately.

      Thanks very much, Brand!

I think the best idea is to give it a try the first day I can, Sunday. I know it's a hike from Disneyland over to USH but since DL is open 8am-12am that day, I'm thinking leaving to go over to Universal to do the Studio Tour and a couple of rides might work. And if I miss Wisteria Lane, the 2-fer tickets out right now will give me the opportunity to go back and try again later in the week.

I really hope I get the "full" tour - to be honest, except for seeing Disneyland for the first time seeing the Housewives set is what I am looking forward to the most. Maybe next year I can get back and do the full VIP tour and get to walk around it.

      Thanks again!

Even on the VIP Experience, you're not gonna being walking in Wisteria Lane- but if you want the best tour without shelling out the $239 (not to mention the entire day)- the day you go, ask if the Privately Guided Studio Tour is available- it's currently $69 per person (or $64 if you're an Annual Passholder) and is the Private Tour portion of the VIP Experience. On weekends, they run 2 a day - one morning, one afternoon. The PGST is a small group (no more than 20) with a VIP Experience guide, and instead of the standard 45 minute tour, is just about 2 1/2 hours with time on the trolley, and time walking on sets and many other areas that are usually just driven past on the regular tram.

        Have fun

It's fun going down Wisteria Lane even if you're not a fan of Desperate Housewives. Many of the facades were used in other TV shows and movies. I always get a kick driving past the Munsters house. It looks all cutesy dressed up for it's new role on Desperate Housewives, but it still is somewhat easy to identify it as the facade used as Herman Munster's house.

I really wish you luck in seeing this!

            Wow, thanks very much, guys

CoasterMatt, thanks for letting me know about that! They don't seem to advertise that on the website, and actually it's the PERFECT idea. I really don't have a whole day to devote anyway, and the only thing I would have done the VIP tour for would have been the extended tram tour - and that's a price we can definitely go for.

If you don't mind me asking, since this isn't on the website, and you mentioned asking the "day of", I assume this is sort of like the "secret" menu at In & Out? It's not on the regular offering list but available for the asking at the ticket booth?

            Thanks so very much!

I didn't know about the PGST either. I'll have to look into that!

USH is my local park, and I go frequently. Due to near-constant filming of various kinds, there's really almost no way of knowing if it'll be open or not on any given day. But maybe if you tried to call guest services, they may be able to give you an idea. The park does list what's being filmed on the lot that day, so they get the information somewhere.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

                Re: USH - Wisteria Lane

Its really a gamble when it comes to seeing anything at the studio. And that applies to ANYONE. not just regular or VIP guests. ask anyone there, theres stories of guests on the VIP Tour getting to goof around with actors in the sound booths when they were there doing dubs for tv versions of movies, and then theres the time Marcia Cross stopped a regular tram tour on the tour route and took a few quick pics with guests while she was walking her dog. or the time Jim Carrey jumped out from behind the psycho house and scared a tram of guests when he was filming Grinch. same thing used to happen with Conan when he filmed there.

literally, ANY day at ANY time you could see something or someone.

there are days when the trams go down wisteria lane with no restrictions whatsoever, weekdays included. and there are some days when its closed off completely and trams even have to hold stopped right after Jaws to accommodate filming. but good luck and always have your camera ready!!!

I remember last time I went to USH. The sets for Transformers was still up. And that was a big deal going through a half destroyed city set where the end battle took place. Fun times :P

That street brings back some wonderful memories. I was an extra on the film "The Burbs" with Carrie Fisher and Tom Hanks. Got to spend six weeks filming there. Great times!
